Will you bother to have her serviced this year..............

I never had a hab service done, and when I sold them on to dealer I wasn't asked about it at all.

The oil being black after a ten mile journey was nothing to do with the sump being overfilled,,,
The oil was black because it hadn't been changed,,, more than likely your "reputable" service outlet just dipped the sump and topped it up,,, and didn't even do that properly!
As for the oil filter,,, I bet they didn't get within a foot of it.

I'd be very tempted to give them another go,,, but mark the filter and put a slight colourant in the oil,,,
you might catch the b****ds bang to rites!

Your thoughts are very similar to mine. The oil filter looked new although it could have been the old one cleaned up. Normally, I mark the outside of the oil filter by making a scratch on the surface.....but unfortunately, not on this occasion. If a new oil filter had been fitted, I assumed (rightly or wrongly) that the old oil must have been dumped. I asked whether they pumped out the old oil but they said they always drain it via the sump plug.

In the end, I put the black colour of the oil down to the possibility of some old oil remaining in the sump. Hence, the second oil change by myself.

Many years ago I bought a new VW type 2. Prior to it's first service I marked up various service components. On collection, the tell-tale marks were still there which I showed to the service manager. He investigated and found they'd serviced another van of the same colour (sandy brown) by mistake. He was so embarrassed....I received a free service. Hence, my life-long scepticism of garage services and why I prefer to do it myself whenever possible  Anyway, thanks for your comments.

Mine had its first service at 2 years last year so not due until next year.
Insurance coming up for renewal did think about reducing it to 6000 miles but I still think we will exceed that providing we can travel abroad by September, 2 trips will be 6000-7000 miles.
I'm in the same boat Lenny. Had the M'home serviced March Last year in Agadir by Fiat service centre and that's it for 2 years. I might even extend it by a few months if no mileage put on this year. I also reduced my Annual mileage to 4,0000 this year (Starts end of this month) and reduced my Insurance premium with Comfort , well below £300.00. I'm also hoping to spend several weeks in Germany come September but even that is looking doubtful as I just cant see the borders opening without some form of assurance/protection in place for countries being visited. Maybe evidence of a positive anti-body test result or some such thing may be required. I don't have a clue to be honest and expecting it to be very long indeed. Keep safe Buddy.

Took mine in for 2yr Service and habitation check just before the lockdown. Bugger me as I was turning into the Service centre the "add blue" light came on. Fortuitous I guess but I'm now up and ready for when the Blackout umh, sorry, the lock down is lifted. What I am annoyed about though is that the day after the lockdown, the price of diesel , at the local supermarket, dropped to @103.7 per litre :swear2:and I had run my tank low . I'm somewhat embarrased to take it to the petrol station at the moment for obvious reasons, although I consider it an essentail journey (a massive savings to my finances) I doubt the local boys in blue would see it the same. Ah well, "you win some you lose some":groan:

Had ours done in January. Oil and filters etc. Ready for the ski trip that never happened. Brought it home and loaded all the gear. Full of fuel, full Gaslow tanks. At least it’s ready for next year.
The paper foot mats the mechanic placed on the cab floor are still there !

My X290 had it's 4 year service last November. Unfortunately it has not moved much since, given we cancelled our spring trip this year because of you know what. Next one will be in November 2021 unless I do a large mileage in the meantime. So, fortunately, not due a service this year. And if we are still in lockdown n 18 months time I don't think there will any dealers left to do the service.
