Will LPG be phased out?

I fill up at a lpg supplier to the caravan park industry. Every static caravan needs lpg and there’s a lot of them so I’m not worried about the uk and Spain has plenty and as Martin says mains gas for the majority isn’t available.

I've posted this a few times but will do so again :)

Some domestic heating oil and LPG suppliers have LPG pumps and will also only charge 5% VAT for LPG used for heating / cooking in motorhomes. Our nearest is here (just off the A68 check opening times and if it is still cash only)

There are other depots but you would need to call ahead to see if they do auto-gas.

Gaslow have just installed a new LPG tank / pump at Loughborough.
More leisure businesses are starting to install LPG pumps .
We have our own LPG pump at Autogas 2000 Thirsk .
The market has undergone some adjustments as the big fuel companies have now pulled out of LPG supply at their corporate owned sites .
Still plenty of independent franchises that supply LPG.

Thanks for that - good to get an expert insight from the industry. (y)

An inquiry has appeared on the Honest John website - Will LPG be phased out in the UK?

And according to the response - yes, within a couple of years.

You'll still be asked, or checked that you have turned off your gas. There is an on/off valve at the underslung tank itself, close to the gauge. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

So not having visited a dealer as such as marquis or brownhills for lpg but I heard the price at brownhills was £0.99ppl (on par with the shell on the A1 at Peterborough at the time) a good while ago, now would that not suggest they are charging the higher tax as per road going vehicle, (on a par with service stations) instead of the lower rate for cooking and heating which as they will know that’s all it would be used for?

They always have done since they started selling LPG 😠 and were always the dearest for miles around. That's why I never topped up there until recently, (on the way home), due to Flogas P/boro running dry for a while. It is £0.70ppl there.

Broonfools are now cheaper than many outlets selling LPG, but still at the road fuel revenue price.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Or looking at it differently they are selling to a completely different market that only ever takes small quantities, so their purchasing power is immediately reduced as they are only buying relatively small quantities, they are also only a single outlet so aren’t buying for multiple outlets.
Now add that they serve you so have staff to pay on what’s often a tiny transaction, they certainly aren’t going to get rich selling a few litres of LPG .
We often go out to vans that either don’t take any LPG as they are already full or the transaction is a pound or two , then pay by card !
Also strange how we actually never ran out of LPG during the so called shortage when Morrisons and pretty much every other major retailer didn’t get stock for weeks.
The cynic in me might actually think that as we were paying the daily market rates and not on a contract fixed price may have been the reason 😂

As I have said it’s a completely different market for leisure vehicles, much smaller quantities than the automotive market, normally attended service from leisure businesses too .
We can’t compete with the major retailers and won’t even try , price isn’t everything.
