Will Left Hand Drive Vans become less popular?

At the moment it’s a seller’s market BUT 2 years from now when COVID is a distant memory , many new MH owners will be selling up & going back to air travel & package holidays , then it will be a buyers market

I'd be interested on how you are gaining access over the 90/180? I'm doing it by renting a plot on a site in France. This gives you a postal address + bills (electric) so you can open an account in , for example France,
Nearly everything in France is now electronic. as in buying and registering a car! If you have no 'home' address you can't do it.
How do you think renting a plot on a French campsite will get you around the 90/180 regs. You need to be legally resident not just have a postal address.

Actually I’ve never had a rhd m/h in 30 years and probably wouldn’t, in fact I’ve been put off several I’ve been interested in because they were rhd.

If I was ordering tomorrow it would be LHD.

Don't think I will be but there is a big Palace liner in the showroom.

As a matter of fact you can't have a Palace in RHD.

the vast majority are just not bothered about 90/180. It
Hi.
SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssssssssssssssssssssssss HHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh !!

I have been back in the UK since July, prior to that I've been in France for over 3 months (also back and forth since looking for property)..It's not just a 'postal address' as I pay for utilities. I intend to apply for the carte de séjour:

Well I’m at least 10 years away from retiring and so the maximum allowance of days in EU will be of no use to me BUT I will still get abroad every chance I get so my choice of A Class LHD 1 ton of payload suits us just fine👍👍👍

If you were to want to sell a LHD you could sell it in Europe plenty of takers over there🤔😊👍

No, why should they, there is a huge market for motorhomes in Europe.

Then why do many from the UK buy left hookers in Belgium and Germany?

My comments about values refer to the market here at this time.

I just can't see anyone buying a LHD vehicle of any sort to drive solely in the UK unless it's cheaper than a RHD.

My own experience of travel in Europe this year has seen how few British vehicles there are over there and on ferries.

To buy a new RHD motorhome thinking that you wouldn't be allowed to go abroad would be extremely short sighted in my opinion, if your purchase is based on never wanting or intending to go abroad well OK go for RHD but you would most likely be buying in the UK and quite possibly paying for for the privilege.

All I am trying to say is that the spike in interest (and values) is driven by people using them in the UK because they cannot or do not want to go abroad.

Personally I don't care whether mine is LHD or RHD but some that are not used to driving a large vehicle for the first time will.

I find driving our right hand drive a class in Europe an advantage especially on narrow roads. Given oncoming drivers speed apparent lack of understanding how wide we are, and obviously owning the road, allows me to get as close to the edge without ending in a ditch or clipping a wall. As for overtaking it’s a leisure vechicle no rush or fuss just wait till it’s safe to do so.

I have a hgv licence, yet when the choice came we bought left hand drive.
my theory been that I’m so used to British roads that it’s easier to be on the correct side abroad.
will it effect lhd vehicle sales hmm 🤔 not enough to put me off buying a brand new lhd 2 months ago.
In theory we can still visit mainland Europe for 6 months out of 12 and we plan to do so.

Totally agree.

If I'm relying on the passenger its usually only for difficult junctions and they can be either side. A53 at Loggerheads is much easier in lhd.

like most vehicles they are far cheaper. That's why many types of vehicle dealers buy there, import and sell here.

There seems to be an influx of imported LHD MH’S on the market at the moment
there is a shortage of stock available here so traders are importing to fill the shortfall
so I think the % of LHD MH’S registered in the U.K. will increase

I don't think this year is a very good indicator of what it will be like after the end of transition but without coronovirus. I suspect for most people it will have very limited effects on their plans or motorhome use it might actually make a few sell up and get a static van or property so they can try and get some way of staying longer but I bet its at most 5% of motorhome owners who spend more than 90days in Europe a year.

Our daughter has a lefthand drive motorhome and has never taken it abroad, it doesn't bother them what side the steering wheel is, 😉 when they hire cars in Spain they just drive off no problem. 😁 Bob.

I can't see the value of LHD vans falling. The LHD market is huge compared to RHD. If the UK demand dries up the vans will just find their way back the channel to our near neighbours. Depends on exchange rates of course but their ain't no positive economic signs for sterling in the near future.....

I've driven maybe 150,000 mile in LHD vehicles in the UK and never had any issues. OK, some junctions require bit more care but some are easier.

I find my 7m LHD A Class absolutely no problem, visibility is excellent and on narrow lanes it's great as you can place it real close to the verge.

Personally, if it's made and designed in a LHD country I find the vehicle ergonomically better to drive. LHD Mercs, Audi and Porsches in particular feel much better in their native format - check out the RHD driving position - seat pedal and steering wheel offset in the latest Mercs compared to the LHD versions. It's just wrong.

You started this thread with a question and since then have posted several times arguing for an answer on one side only, so it seems that in your mind it was not a question at all, as you already made up ypur mind.

My husband finds exactly the same thing, when driving our LHD vehicle on British roads 👍.
He says he would never want to go back to RHD.

This article is 12 months old, things have moved on. For any chance of a CdS, you will have to be resident on France before 31/12/2020.. In the health system, tax system etc. If not you will have similar rights as any lowly immigrant..

You keep saying "they cannot go" I don't get where you are coming from, more motorhomers means more than ever will be going.

Why would you expect more rights having made it clear you don't want to offer them to others coming here!
