I think I read somewhere that the little rocker switch in the attached photo can just be levered out. Is this true, or does it have little prongs that will snap off?

enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
Or treat yourself to a set of car trim removal tools, cheap enough and they might come in handy for other little jobs.

Is there a reason to remove it ?

Normally the cupboard above will have a false shelf, ours does anyway and it has a plastic cap I can lift to gain access to the back of all switches.

Good thought but not with this particular switch.
