Will I get Fined?

I reckon when you book you pay a non refundable deposit, if you cancel and rebook same site different dates that deposit is taken for those dates one time only cancel again deposit is lost. Something needs to be done to stop people booking sites just in case they want to go !

We were booked in at a CCC site a couple of years ago, all fully paid in advance. We had to cancel - on three days notice - as the wife was taken ill. Lost nearly £100 :(

I had to cancel a booking to a CMC site because Fiat were keeping my van "for observation" longer than planned. I was a bit slow and cancelled just after noon, 71hr 52min before arrival and got an automated letter. I sent one back, cancelling my membership (as well as their useless WiFi). There are plenty more places to go where you're not govered by officialdom.
Now £50pa better off.

You'll just get one of their "special" emails warning you of dire repercussions and revenge should you dare to commit the ultimate offence of short notice cancellation again.
I believe you need 3 of those golden tickets - after that, you're account will be investigated by the resident Club Gestapo. If found guilty, they can put sanctions on your account.

I've had two warnings over the past 2 years. Both times replied with a link to the Samaritans website. Apparently, they're more likely to give a toss :sneaky:

When I had to cancel a CCC site 4 years ago at short notice because Martin was in hospital after a heart attack they refunded all my payment. I did send proof of the hospital admission.

The private site we were going on to kept the full payment. :(

When I worked on site, we were quite happy to move booking way in advance, and when they knew dates, we would rearrange.

We couldn’t rearrange as we were going for a specific event : my wife was singing in the local Cathedral. I asked if we could be given a credit note, to spend on future bookings with the club but that was refused. Not even the offer of a Doctor’s note helped :(

CAMC - no advance payment - but three strikes rule
C&CC - at least a deposit paid which is refundable if you cancel 30 days in advance.

I wonder if they (CMC) would throw you out?
When I resigned I got e-mail, letter and phone call to try and persuade me to stay.
I don't think they like losing members.

I was told by another member that they put markers on your account and eventually remove your membership or don’t let you renew!
an absolute no-no! they want your subs no matter what!

I think you maybe like us - 28 years members, on the brink of leaving in August but great cl's and have now joined the 'friendly' CCC.

I wonder why I do not want to play with them? Maybe I do not like tha way they do things, as parking up is no real problem anywhere.

I have not been on a CCC club site since they threatened to blacklist me after my partner was hospitalised during the night before going to a site in Yorkshire. Apology eventually received, but what an attitude!

We booked into CMC Bolton Abbey for one night, but increased it to two nights during the signing in process.
Then we discovered that the bus trip up the valley which we'd come for [Bus Pass Britain Rides Again] had just left and didn't run next day.

So I went back to cancel: sorry "no can do unless you forfeit your money".
To say I was a little bit cross was an understatement, but then I was told that I could transfer my night's fees to a different site. The Warden phoned round a number of sites, got us into CMC Kendal and all was well.

When I was self-employed I used the MH as a cheap overnight location and booked into a site near Leeds: possibly Wetherby but it's a long time ago! I'd driven as far as Retford when the client rang to cancel the booking.
CMC reservations weren't overly happy, but again they transferred the night to Clumber Park and all was well.

I think they do a reasonably good job and are certainly more flexible than a hotel is likely to be.

I got a yellow card for missing two bookings last year due to problems and they told me if I do it again I may get suspended.:(:(:(

If that was the case I wonder how long you would be suspended for?, 2 weeks?:D
If they do suspend members then I guess there must have been a few hundred in year gone by.
I am beginning to thinks as others have suggested that as long as people renew so they can get their subs in, that's all that really matters to them.
They are too scared to take deposits for fear off putting off all those that have and still do make yearly bookings, with the feint chance that they might well want to go. But even they are not daft enough to book the same week at different sites.....are they?

Plus with a deposit scheme in place that would put them on par with all the indies, which might even make the CMC have to review their current pricing policy i.e discount for not having a dog(n)
or over 60's discount such as many indies, and the CCC offer.
Les ,again:)

Arrived today for our first stay at a CMC site. I had read all the “peg” threads here and was amused to find it was all true. However this is a very slack site as they said I could park the van either way round!

Some don’t mind forward or backwards but the peg must always be obeyed

The peg is to ensure that rigs are parked at least 6 metres apart

I know why they have the pegs although it makes no sense for motorhomes that park without a vehicle parked beside.

I often don't decide where I am going to stay until I am halfway there. Can't remember the last time I was allowed on a CMC site as they are always full. Thank god for Brit Stops. Memo to self must cancel CMC direct debit. Usually in Europe mainland anyway. Just turn up and there's always room at under 15 quid a night or a free aire.

@TinaL I think if memory serves me right it was 3 months according to the email. Not that I was bothered how can you account for unforeseen circumstances :(:(:(

Last Thursday we booked 4 nights at the CMC Baltic Wharf Site at Bristol, from Monday 12 AM onwards to Friday 12AM, even though the website computer said NO, I called and got a pitch with no awning no problem...so nice one.
I phoned the this Saturday Morning to postpone to say I had a problem with the van on the 12 volt side, and could not get it sorted until Monday at the earliest.
This is the response I got:
So are asking to cancel your pitch?
I said yes.
He said, well as its only 46 hours until your scheduled arrival time, I will have to put you on the system as a no show, but I will mark it up as a breakdown situation.
He then said: The CMC will let you know whether there will be a late cancellation fee to be paid, and they will write to you accordingly:eek:

I wouldn't mind except that I have been a member for 4 years and only used CMC sites twice, I do not go on line early Jan at 8AM and book up everywhere "I Think" I might want to go to for the year, as this would be selfish & unfair to others that actually may want to go to a popular site at that time.
I have never cancelled a booking before, or turned up late.

If they try and fine me,for only giving 46 hours and not 48 hours notice, they can stick it where the sun dont shine.
Les
Hi, I think that this is why I and many others cancelled our membership of the CMC years ago, I cannot see how they can class ringing nearly 2days ahead to cancel because of a vehicle fault which rendered it unusable as a “no show” but I guess that’s typical of the mentality of the CMC and the power crazy little hittlers they employ to run their sites, it wasn’t that many years ago that they wouldn’t allow Motorhomes on their sites or in the club for that matter.

It’s a pity more people don’t vote with their feet, I did, only thing I miss is the CL’s but even a lot of those will let anyone stay, who wants to be a member of a dictatorial organisation, I agree that you have to have rules but.....

Just reading all the recent bad reviews of the CMC Moreton on the Marsh site from the CMC web page (open all year) seems that they would rather invest money into new Yurt provision, than repairing the pot holed site roads and flooded muddy pitches , that many have complained about.
The pitches are not big enough for caravans to use without parking their tow vehicle overlapping the pitch onto the muddy grass verge areas.
If its going to be an open all year site, then the first thing that needs addressing is pitch size & drainage, I would have thought, lets hope they listen. The toilet block also received complaints, like needs modernising, surprised me that, as they are reputed to be first class in most cases.
I will give them one more year, before giving up, but their pricing structure is getting too greedy, not offering discounts to over 60,s, or dog free pitching, however I know this will upset the dog owning fraternity, and The CMC know that only too well, also.
Might give The CCC a try next, although I know they have their own set of issues.

A couple of years ago we had booked in the spring to go to CMC Moreton in the Marsh but we were phoned the day before to suggest we did not visit as the site was under water so they could cancel our booking, very thoughtful. Perhaps this not an unusual event, possibly the site title gives a hint why "in the marsh?"

So the new Yurt installation is dual purpose then, Yurts in the dry season, floating Barges in the wet:D Win, Win, situation(y)
