Wild Campers in Elche !

Maybe just Maybe the local Spanish residents are fed up of finding their local streets choc a block with motorhomes parked nose to tail, and have complained to the local police.. If it wasnt illegal the police would not be able to inforce a fine.

As in the Calpe thread showing motorhomes nose to tail in the street there is nothing that can be done, except if those parking flout the rules for 'parking' .

The op here @bobandjanie , s link shows Mh's off road & different regs apply.

I got it from the local paper. http://www.diarioinformacion.com/elche/

:D Bob.

Well you clearly didn't read the article properly............ You said that 'Fines of €90 are being handed out.' and gave the distinct impression that the photo was of people being fined. People here were even trying to decipher where the guilty parties originated from by checking the number plates and GB stickers!

Now the link to the original article gives a totally different story....

The article is about proposed ordinance to curb camping overnight on the street. The photo attached is obviously a stock photo to illustrate what they mean by camping.

Not parking on the street.... camping on the street!

'The tripartite Elche will sanction the caravans that park in public spaces for camping'

Sorry about huge font - cut and pasted from original article

Can't wait to get down there and see you strutting around in your mankini

:hot: :hot: :hot:

:Eeek::Eeek::Eeek: :rofl::rofl::rofl:
Not a pretty site but not as bad as having to listen to Phil playing Dylan for 3 days continually. Don't get me wrong I like Dylan but there are limits.:ROFLMAO:

I don't go in for a lot of wild camping as we are usually in France and use Aires, but I don't see how there is much up with the vans in that photo, looks like a piece of waste ground and not Street in the normal terms and just a couple with chairs out, can't see how they are hurting anyone.

We joined the gang @PhilandMena, @Busman & @peterc10 on the wild spot at Cullera. Huge festival grounds with a couple of hundred vans on it not causing any problems but giving a lot of income to the town. Just need to walk round and see the vast amount of holiday apartments empty at this time of year and all the restaurants & bars relying on their income from the Motorhomes.

I do object to all the vans camped on the road leading down to the site, nice smart road lined with Motorhomes totally unnecessary when there is such a large parking area nearby. It's that sort of action that gets the local's backs up and looses us the wild spots.

And maybe there not! Strikes me the problem is with a certain minority of campers who set their own standards and expect everyman and his dog to follow suit, or be dammed for ever.

But then they pee off the locals and bans are enforced.

Here at Totana, a privately run camperstop, there are still chancers who try to do just what they want and upsetting other motorhomers along the way. These people don't give a t@ss about anyone but themselves.

@Southdowners Your right I didn't read it fully, I wasn't pointing fingers at UK motorhomes, :D2 It was more informing people camping in Elche or anywhere else for that matter that Spain know they have a problem and are doing something about it. :D
They are opening loads of camper stops / Aires and most of the time very tolerant on motorhomes, probably more so than most countries. (y)

But the people that continue to break the law and camp will spoil it for everyone that appreciate the fact you :cry:can park without a problem most of the time.

A lot park in Javea some park on the industrial estate, upsets people that work there :( because that's where they park.
Some park on the beach where they have signs
for bidding them.
Some park right outside a campsite and go in and use the facilities.
And the others park outside apartments,
And most of them think they are wild camping.
Yet............. many will not stay there alone. :ROFLMAO:

The police are very good here, ;) providing you only park and if there are marked bays you park in them, I have seen many parked over 3 or 4 bays but only witnessed 2 tickets,
I have seen police say take your step in you can stay, but if someone reports anyone the police have to do something, and it doesn't matter if your camping or parked everyone is moved. :)

God it makes life difficult for us when we leave here and start our travels. Bob.

As I said before, some campers get upset when the standards they set are not met by others. I won't be loosing any sleep over the comments made by some on this thread. I would rather be a FLT than a simple T.
