We are in the area at the moment and have been turned away from three Camper stops, in a row, as they were all full.

However, we have paid to stay on the site at Xabia rather than join all the wild campers. We are surprised at how busy sites are at present all along the south coast, especially since a lot of the “snowbirds” have now returned North.

We come to Spain in March every year for the last five and are amazed at how busy the sites are this year.

Usually they are half empty when we arrive.

What a sad, sad comment. Why would a Funster want to inflict even more pinishment on someone who has just been fined 90 euros. IMO this says more about your lack of tolerance to others who enjoy the freedom of wild camping. Can't wait to get down there and strut around in my mankini.

Simple... you are breaking the law by staying overnight in the street. Break the law accept the punishment... or better still why expect something for nothing and go and stay in an aire or campsite

As May (May, Hammond & Clarckson ) would say, often on top gear! Utter cock!
Show me your source where it is illegal to sleep in a motorhome in a street in Spain. No freeloaders get out for nowt, they all pay into the community in one way or another.

As an aside, it is my experience that the Spanish plod will only issue a fine as a last resort and I have still to find any Funster who has been fined for wild camping. Yes, they will warn you, perhaps even threaten you but in almost every case they are polite and simply ask you to leave. If you ignore this advice you may well be setting yourself up for trouble
The picture posted shows a couple of people sitting outside their motorhome and it may well be there were many more and this was being tolerated by the local plod. Where I am at the moment tens of tens of campers are sitting on chairs outside there motorhome and the plod are driving around each day and like the local community, tollerant of this behaviour with a great deal of money being spent in the local community, as the reward. I treat some of the posts on here in the same way I do with Facebook, fake news and false stories. Now in bar in local community drinking shed loads of cheap beer with my niki trainers on so I Can maintain my reputation as a freeloader when I let it through the bog window before paying my bill. I love willing.

The "best" weather, even though it doesn't feel like it, is in a small area of Spain, hence people are concentrating in this small area.

Quite simple, Spanish law allows the parking of a motor vehicle in the street provided that it is taxed, insured and has an MOT or equivalent (ITV in Spain) but it specifically prohibits “camping” which clearly is happening if people are sleeping in the vehicle.

No you are not .Please do not confuse people by stating incorrect info.
Parking = you can sleep, eat ,cook etc; in the vehicle parked in any street or car park
Camping = as above but having tables ,chairs ,wind breaks, etc Outside, Even leaving the step out or a pair of shoes constitutes camping.

See above . With ANY parked vehicle, & you cannot differentiate as it is illegal, you can do anything within the vehicle including sleeping, cooking as long as there is no noise, windows that open outwards from the vehicle etc;

See here the difference between 'camping ' & 'parking'
Broken Link Removed

The second picture shows, & states, that it is perfectly legal to eat, sleep, cook in a parked vehicle. Day or night.

The op picture doesn't show vehicles 'Parked' in a street but off road it would appear around the salt lakes.

Can't wait to get down there and see you strutting around in your mankini

Not a pretty sight I hasten to add - mankini, Nikki trainers, as he calls them, with his black socks and a San Miguel tinnie in each sock aka Upton Sunshine Festival.
Fully fledged FLT of the highest order our Phil is.

Thank you for posting the facts on the matter.

People who post stating absolute ‘facts’ about legalities which turn out to be just their opinion doesn’t help anyone.

I love travelling although I cannot afford a campsite very often, wild or free camping is the only way for me as stated I would only put chair's or a step out where allowed. I often use the barbecue site's where provided. As do the locals, I do find that a lot of Dutch, German, French, literally throw everything out generator's, washing machines, table's, chair's, washing line's to street light's. To some extent the UK vehicles do the same, but definitely not as much. I do say live and let live and leave nothing behind except happiness and a smile.

Maybe just Maybe the local Spanish residents are fed up of finding their local streets choc a block with motorhomes parked nose to tail, and have complained to the local police.. If it wasnt illegal the police would not be able to inforce a fine.

The BIG problem for all of us, technical and legal statements, is just who do you believe ?

With an added problem in Spain, it seems to me the man with the gun is always right even when he's not. A-frames being the classic case followed by e-bikes.

That's the thing about things posted on the internet. You have to go back to the source to decide if its credible or not. I don't know where the original poster got their info from. It certainly doesn't look like an official website from what's posted here. How do you know that fines were imposed?

I certainly wouldn't see that as a credible source of information.
