£24 per month, 12 month contract. You can cancel the extra £8.75 per month EU roaming on return to UK.Could you tell me how much GB you had on the
Can you tell me how much the 250 GB sim cost please and can you cancel it at any time?
You might have something there, as I did go into my iPlayer settings and chose SD, but that was weeks ago before we left the UK, but it may have reset itself. I'll do another check when I get a chance. If I watch something on BBC for 2 hours using Firestick it uses about 1.3 GB. The standard definition sometimes flicks back to Best Quality if something has gone wrong but normally stays at SD…so your Rugby should have used 2.6 GB. Perhaps you needed Best Quality to check the tries like VAR…
Thank you very muchYes used for 3months without vpn because its a uk sim
Yes reply #26 on this threadSomeone on another thread mentioned that although you set the Firestick to a low quality you still need to change the apps e.g. iPlayer.
I’ve not need to do this yet as I’m on an unlimited deal.
Just looked at EE and there is still a 15GB fair use policy for data in the EU, even after you paid the extra, as far as I can see?£24 per month, 12 month contract. You can cancel the extra £8.75 per month EU roaming on return to UK.
So how do you change iPlayer resolution, I can't find it in Iplayer"settings". Can ITVX be similarly reduced? Again, I can't find this option.Yes reply #26 on this thread
Thank you JockYes you can, as it is a UK sim card, so no VPN required.
If you were to use a local sim card, or have access to local WiFi, then that's where the VPN becomes necessary.
Our Firestick 4K will not display in anything less than 720p, ie, High Definition, so watching 2 x hours of 6 x Nations Rugby last Saturday, and again on Sunday, chewed up 10Gb from our Popit 100Gb allowance so be aware of your usage.
HTH,
Jock.
You're right there! If it was the England v France then that was a waste of 10GB
When you go into iPlayer, click to the left of the Home Page, there’s a little cog down the bottom, click on that and see settings, go into setting and click on Standard Definition as I showed in #26. No you can’t on ITVX …see my #20 reply. Perhaps Russell could do it for youSo how do you change iPlayer resolution, I can't find it in Iplayer"settings". Can ITVX be similarly reduced? I think you’ll find you’re not changing the right settingsI’ve tested many times and streaming via firestick uses 2gb an hour more often than not to be honest.
I have tried changing various settings but have found it made very little difference.
Quite possibly, although to be fair you don’t know by which means I’m watching stuff on the firestickI think you’ll find you’re not changing the right settings
I assumed through a TelevisionQuite possibly, although to be fair you don’t know by which means I’m watching stuff on the firestick
I will investigate further to see what I’ve missed.
Russell is my Carthago. I'll ask, but his English ain't great!!!When you go into iPlayer, click to the left of the Home Page, there’s a little cog down the bottom, click on that and see settings, go into setting and click on Standard Definition as I showed in #26. With EE you have 15gb in Europe or pay £10 for the month where you can then use all your allowance.Just looked at EE and there is still a 15GB fair use policy for data in the EU, even after you paid the extra, as far as I can see?
I have EE 250Gb and as said previously I have used it in Europe and rather than paying the £2 per day I pay the £8.75 for the month for EU usage and then cancel it once the month is up and I return to th UK. Having said that I have never had to use anywhere near my limit. So if you have an unlimited data sim & pay the £10 you can use as much data as you like? That would be ideal, but not how I read it?
Yes, but you are still viewing in HD, (High Definition), rather than the lowere data consuming 480p SD, (Standard Definition). On Amazon Firestick go to setting this is on the Home Screen the little wheel right hand side click then go to Display click. Again look for 720 @ 50 cycles click on that press home button all done.
What happens if you don’t return to the UK ? What happens if you want to roam for 5 months ? And what happens if you want more that 50GB….better a local Simm I would suggest..I have EE 250Gb and as said previously I have used it in Europe and rather than paying the £2 per day I pay the £8.75 for the month for EU usage and then cancel it once the month is up and I return to th UK. Having said that I have never had to use anywhere near my limit.
Just watched 1 hour of BBC on Avtex TV with Firestick…Used 640mb on Standard Definition. No idea what 720 at 50 cycles is all about . Maybe knitting would suit you and Bessy765 betterYes, but you are still viewing in HD, (High Definition), rather than the lowere data consuming 480p SD, (Standard Definition).
Ven, and Hugoman. A bit of research online guided me to advice re altering the resolution on a Firestick below the limited choices in the display settings.
Pressing the up button, and the rewind button simultaneously for a few seconds, brings up a menu which changes every 10 x seconds. When the resolution required appears on the screen, press OK to lock in your choice. In my case, I chose 480p 60Hz.
I also went into my iPlayer setings again, and sure enough, my choice of SD hadn't changed since adjusting the settings before leaving home, so I have to assume that it was the Firestick 720p resolution causing the extra data used, when viewing terestrial TV on Catchup.
Having made the above checks/changes, I am currently monitoring data usage whilst catching up on UK News. Initial data useage figures over the past hour and a quarter, are looking promising.
Cheers,
Jock.
Just keep paying the £8.75 per month. I have no 50Gb or fair use clause so not going to pay for a local sim. What happens if you don’t return to the UK ? What happens if you want to roam for 5 months ? And what happens if you want more that 50GB….better a local Simm I would suggest..
I’m lost…are you saying you can have an EE contract (how much ?) and for £8.75 pm extra (so how much would that be ?) you can have unlimited ? 50GB ? Ad infinitem …..in the EU with no throttling etc…I don’t think so…..Just keep paying the £8.75 per month. I have no 50Gb or fair use clause so not going to pay for a local sim.
I have just watched 2 hours of BBC via Firestick and it has used 1.5 GB ….I would write to Steve Borthwick and demand a 7GB refund…as well as an apology for resultYes you can, as it is a UK sim card, so no VPN required.

When I looked at t and c’s I’m sure it stated fair use policy max of 50gb even if you paid the extra per month for roaming abroad….?£24 p/m for 250Gb. EU use extra £2 per day or choose extra £8.75 per month. Only once used more than half my allowance and that was because of a gamer on board.
