WHY!.....Why am I doing this, and how did you feel when you did it?

You need to educate her that going to the shop to buy a newspaper is so last century
Buy her a subscription to The Times or better still The Beano
Oh I agree.. But she does not even like using her Kindle, preferring a 'real' book..
She is a bit of a technophobe !
I spose it IS easier doing the crossword every day using a pen

????? what a bunch of precious old numptys you lot are ??
You must admit, you do seem to have cast a shadow on your self with all the 'anti' posts
It seems where 596 has settled in and joining in the fun, while more and more folk are taking umbrage with your good self over your stance :)

Yes, I think many members are a bit precious, and no doubt some of us are numpty's, but that's just the way it is

Looking back, it is more than a bit possible many of your 'anti' posts are tongue in cheek, but there is a fine line and it seems many of the precious numpty's on here think it is being crossed :)

I guess the problem I have is that my wife is much younger than me and works extremely hard, money is not the issue it’s time that is precious! Trying to balance our love of boating and the huge investment we have in that together with the annual family commitments in the SofF and the tool required for that (motorhome) is hard, (we give up our prime boating time to sit in a desert in the SofF every year).

I have all the time in the world, she doesn’t, we both love travelling and nature but need more time and that’s running out as we get older, once the outlaws are either dead or give up camping we will be free, being loyal to family can sometimes be very hard, biting my tongue for 6 friggin weeks is not easy I can assure you!

i really feel awful, I should be excited about tomorrow but it’s just like another aggravation to deal with, there are people that would love the opportunity to own a Swift no matter what size or age, we really need to reflect on life and it’s meaning, maybe our long weekend up north will inspire us, I have heard people up there actually live their lives not just exist, they talk to each other as well!

One main issue is even though my wife chose the van on specification, when she saw it in all its glory in real life last Saturday at the NEC show she said “You will never get me driving that monstrosity” ? what is it about women and size, I always thought size doesn’t matter?
I'm struggling to see your "problem".
If you feel no attachment to motorhoming, per se, use one only for a 6 week period in the South of France when meeting family, why not simply fly, rail or drive down there and stay in a hotel? You've said money's not an issue. I've no idea what you're paying for your new Swift but assuming it's only £60k, that's a lot of years travelling and accommodation in the SofF without any of the "aggravation" involved in motorhoming and you won't have a depreciating asset.

PLEASE read my previous posts I can’t keep repeating myself sorry, some people will get bored. Just trust me I looked at every option and there is a ‘family’ reason we go to the same ffing place every year ?

Oh been there looked at that, some lovely ones complete with moorings, but oh no, we MUST be in a campsite with the family! There is a whole world out there to explore and I am wasting every friggin summer in the same bloody place with the same bloody people doing the same bloody thing to please my wife because it’s all her bloody family!

You know what, I may just go on my own and explore Europe for 10mths with something different to see each day, maybe someone on the forum would like to come along for company ?
i have thought about this but i would end up with an inferior complex following your gin palace around in my sunlight poeple will think i was the dog kennel

A new anything is always a worry!
Once it’s had it’s corners knocked off-so to speak-you will find its easier to live with!
When I worked with new & used cars I was told ‘don’t worry it’s only a car’!
20 dustbins in a different shape or when they were metal 10,000 razorblades

Nothing wrong with Sunlight, I chatted to one of the salesmen in Dusseldorf, if they could have got me the payload I wanted and rear lounge I would have gone for one, looked like great value for money ?

Size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it.
As for driving the MH, well that would not bother me one bit, it's not a 'woman' thing.

If ever your wife can't go to South of France and you need to take an elderly housekeeper with you to clean the van, there are rather a lot of us single wimmin on here. :)

(PS the others don't clean as well as I do).

As some on here may know I needed a newer compliant vehicle for the LEZ I live in, sold my lovely older van in a couple of days and have ordered a brand new one, deposit paid and I go to get it tomorrow, will go through the handover in fine detail and if happy pay the huge balance.

Having had 4 weeks of no van and responsibility, being able to sweep in and out of the drive with ease, see my hedges and have a healthy bank balance it has been fantastic, a sense of freedom, BUT ALL this will end tomorrow when I bring more stress and worry on myself with a new van to care for and all the associated issues that come with them, especially as we have chosen that worlds leader in sloppy workmanship........Swift. (only for Maxi chassis payload and rear lounge within a reasonable budget)

Although it’s been exciting researching sourcing and having every conceivable option put on the thing I have no excitement about actually owning it or even driving all the way to collect it tomorrow, same for my wife, it’s just a line on a spread sheet to her that has a function for one purpose and that is to take us to the SofF once a year for 6 weeks!

Has anyone else gone through these emotions?

PLEASE give me some tips in how to bond with this huge 8.1mtr plastic monstrosity, I am taking her for a few days on a tour of the north tomorrow, was wondering once I have caressed and slept with her if emotions will change?

Thanks as always ?
Hope it all goes well for you, we have just sold our nearly new Swift and bought a second hand Hobby. The layout of the Hobby was after a lot of deliberation, the better design for us, and the build quality much better.

we are retired, 7 years now and 4 vans later, now a camping car type van 4 years old, though hubby would like a newer one, but at the thought of spending 20000 plus just for a new one, I don't think so, very happy with what we have and would rather spend that on future holidays, we don't have that much and spending that would leave us with nothing to fall back on. We both and the dog love travelling, so, check the weather and off we go. Go out and enjoy your holidays, you don't know what is round the corner.

motorhoming is not about what you have in the bank, it is a shared lifestyle. it is also a great leveller where everyone rich or poor uses a plastic toilet in little more than a wardrobe in a builders van. then we all queue to empty the cassette

To help bound with your motorhome, add something which is on ya wish list which will improve its characteristics, enhance its ambience and make it unique to you. Plus taking care of the essential wants will help you feel safe and comfortable knowing ya all sorted no matter where the adventure leads. Enjoy ya travels =",'= I use my 3.5 ton 7m Burstner as my soul transport so she is pat of the family, indeed the only family I have to rely on for happiness and escape. It's all about how you choose to live with your wagon. :-)

So HOW do we get more women driving, my wife needs inspired by another female driver ?
I told her she would not be driving ours and she made such a fuss I had to give in! (see what I did there)
