Why is Autogas disappearing?

Went to fill up at our usual place A140/A14, they don't sell LPG anymore, attendant told us the closest was the Shell Garage in Ranleigh Road Ipswich.
That was the one that started me off on my hunt when the same thing happened to us on the A140/A14. We always found it very useful as it is within 4 miles for us, though we had to go in in and reverse out every time! I guess because we just use it for the cylinders (and not motion!) the cost is not too important for us - normally about £8 a cylinder.

Do you guys really think autogas is on the way out?

If the environmental restrictions on diesels continue to increase companies will look for alternatives, petrol LPG? American Ducatos have a 3.2 litre v6 petrol and hybrids ( my favoured option) tend to be petrol.

I agree with the earlier poster on here that it could be in for a boost.

So what happens to diesel heating when diesel cars disappear in a few years?
Fill up at the same place as trucks because they will be with us for a long time yet.BUSBY.

Very often have wait to get to the lpg pump at Morrison's, and not always because they are getting petrol. I guess if you are selling enough to cover the expense then you keep the pumps, otherwise they go.

It's drive through as well no reversing, usually slightly cheaper than the one at Raleigh road and slightly easier access although still drive through.

We usually fill up at Thickthorn Services - on the A11 \ A47 roundabout. The last time we were there a couple of weeks ago there was a small queue of LPG powered cars waiting to use the pump so they are still doing okay.

You take the diesel heater out and replace it with a heat pump and hope sites have uprated their hookup rating

In Thailand lots of the trucks & buses run on natural gas (I know we have run out) & Bangkok taxis, I think you can convert older diesels but not not the modern common rail ones.

where is the Morrisons you refer too.

Thanks - Derry

Go passed the first turn for ipswich assuming your coming from the Claydon direction, take the next one, turn left at the bottom, under the railway bridge and it's on your right. Pump is over the far side at the front. I go behind the shop but only because its easier to access the pump for me.

The demand for Autogas to be used in motorhomes is perhaps understandable for a large proportion of Motorhomers never leave the UK, so replaceable bottles are less of a problem to obtain. Once outside the UK in Europe, every country has their own rules and using Autogas becomes more practical. I have two 11kg tanks which can last me several weeks each so I may fill up perhaps once a year in the UK, whereas I fill up more often outside the UK where most of my touring is done.

I have often been surprised in both UK and Continent that, when I have asked filling stations where the nearest LPG, GPL, Autogas station is, the guys/girls behind the counter often do not even seem to understand what it is.

To be fair why would they. All they want to know is pump number and take your money , they would not be involved with anything else apart from looking out for drive off,s
