Why does something always break

We had a Swift Select PVC that blew fuses whenever we tried to run the heating on 230v. After replacing three, supplied by the dealer, only to have them blow immediately we knew we were in trouble.

When on a site in Dumfries and it blew again I looked for a replacement. There were no motorhome/caravan dealers nearby so I tried a local, small independent electrical shop. I gave him a failed fuse and asked if he could “provide a 10 ampe fuse like this” . The owner took the fuse away and came back saying, “I thought you asked for a 10 amp fuse, this is a 1 amp” . (I think that was the rating, although I am sure others on the Forum will know the right answer).

Apparently the two fuses have similar colour bands for identification. We had no problems after that.
I have one of the 'boxes full of fuses' you can get off Amazon... Rating 1Amp to 20Amp. Just another little box of things I have never used yet but might do one day.... given a few out though!!

I keep a box of spares, mostly never used, but would help if something failed, fuses, a few plumbing fittings, a spare blade for the toilet, fuses, wet and dry duck tape, grease etc. Just on case 😃😃😃

We carry spares too, but it always seems to be that we never need the spares we have, just the ones that we don’t.

For example, we always carry a set of lightbulbs for our motorhome. When the indicator bulb blew on our trailer we got out our “super-duper”, pre-packaged set of bulbs only to find out that the bulbs in the set were clear and the trailer bulb was amber!

Sometimes you just can’t win!

We want to know what to do with all the bits that keep turning up in our new van but cannot find where they came from.
