Is there something about the conversion process that makes them expensive compared to a low profile or alcove van that probably has more space? Just interested in the technicalities.

Exploiting popularity, it's been a successful business model since commerce began.
We all benefit from that model or our MoHo’s would not exist or be worthless 😎👍

Hymer Grand Canyon S, La Strada Regent S

Crazy money
I've just speced up a new Mercedes Sprinter 4x4 190bhp on the Mercedes Vans website, to the same base level as the all options Hymer Grand Canyon 4x4.

The empty base vehicle comes in at nearly £85,000 from Mercedes.

The Hymer converted version with all options ticked included the pop top, alloy wheels, etc is around £118,000... so 'only' £33,000 for the conversion. I think you'd struggle to do it yourself for £33k. Still pretty pricey though for 6m van.!

The la Strada Regent 4x4 comes in around £135k but looks to be a better quality build.

£85000 for the base van that’s so expensive they won’t be selling too many.

Has anybody stated the obvious 'because they can be'.
Supply and demand determines the price of a good.
The whole economic model around leisure vehicles is to max out the price of base vehicle and fittings so as to meet bonus targets while they can.
Those that could afford a new gin palace last year maybe will be thinking twice about new again next year but there will always be people with enough disposable capital and lifestyle desire to pay whatever the price.
Come the recession over the next couple years the whole market will change but price will remain constant and sales drop off a cliff.
Realist or pessimist you decide?

Pragmatist, but I do think you are also missing overall the overall cost of goods has gone up.

10 maybe 15% but not 30+%
Perhaps I just lead a sheltered life.
Possibly so, I purchased a new T6 in January 2019 for £30K I would get the same for the Transporter today

Don't you start!! 😜

After reading all the 'whoosh bang' threads on here, we say 'whoosh bang' every time we go out the door now!
Had to be said, i'm a proud member of the slidey sidey door gang. 💪
I’m proud to say I’m a member of the close it properly and it only makes a click gang 👍

We unfortunately don't have a click, 😜 and even slamming the door many times in and out with the dog people park close. 🤣
We thought having Spanish plates would put them off, as they have a reputation for being noisy into the early hours........ but No it doesn't make any difference. 😁 Bob.
