Who was looking for a place in France to park up

From the horse's mouth:

No I am afraid not as the property is on a small impasse so that wouldn’t be possible. There is a campsite in the village that is open all year round

That looks exactly like the property that ianthebuilder was offered for 1€ when he did a new roof next door for someone on here ? they owned it as well
There are places like that all over, if you are in the know, which I arent, but know people who are, folks just want rid of them ,can't be bothered with the upkeep, it's when agents get involved that the trouble starts, they want nearly as much for selling them as the owners wanted in the first place.

Depopulation is a major problem in large areas of rural France, property prices are low as a consequence.
In my experience most French prefer to demolish and rebuild rather than renovate, or even just let the old property fall apart and build on the land if there is any.

What ever country rural areas suffer from lack of employment and decent wages which leads to cheaper properties

I have my eye on a place 40 mins north of Benodet in Brittany.

Small 2 bed, 2 bathroom cottage. Move in straight away. Comes with a huge barn and 2 acres of land.

Its £50,000 which we would pay in council tax if we stay here for 20 years in Cheshire.

but.

It’s Schengen
It’s EU

So would require residency

Currently looking at buying something cheap in Portugal. I think the taxation is less than Spain where we own a villa.

There is a lot in Brittany, but I always think it's not far enough south, pretty much like being here :( nice enough and that, but not as warm as further south or Spain or Portugal.
Have you got residency in Spain or looking to swap it.

Agh, I would be looking to escape the summer heat of Spain!. So would suit us fine. Just don’t fancy 2 acres.

We are not resident yet. We are looking to retire Or semi retire soon, mid fifties.

Yes, see now, working the other way round :giggle:
But for me if I was your age, I would be looking for some sort of place to park up or rent, not the slightest intention of ever leaving the village here where I have lived for almost 74 years:giggle:(y)
But at your age now I don't blame you for wanting to be somewhere else.

It all looks very inviting until you consider the way French planning law works. If you think British planning laws are complicated you can easily triple that and if you can't even speak the lingo very well just forget it..

Well I would love to know where you get your info from, are you talking about renovation or maybe a new build?

New to the forum, I tried to post to this thread but in error started a new one.
An extra comment for all, Thanks Chaser, Minxy girl and ivory55.

Another reason for why some buildings are left to tumble down in France is to do with their inheritance laws.
Upon the death say of grandad and grandama, who had 6 children, the property is EQUALLY divided between those 6, Just say all 6 marry and have 2 children each. On subsequent deaths that original property can finish up with multiple persons actually owning a portion. So the property cannot be sold or disposed of without all 'benificiaries' agreement.
A friend who has bought a property with a barn similar to your pictures included with the house, in fact only owns part: one third of the right hahd side and two thirds of the left hand side!!! Not just buildings split like this but also plots of the land.
We infact bought a property which the estate agent assured us was all ours, just under 2 acres, when in fact a strip about 30metres by 3metres was still owned by another brother.
BUYER BEWARE
