who goes to a gym (on a regular basis)?

The one we have is the Wattbike Atom - it's a fab bit of kit, there are loads of free training programs on the Wattbike app which will cause you no end of suffering ;)....... but it really comes into it's own if you pair it with something like Zwift for longer rides.

We were a bit wary when we bought it due to the initial cost, but it's honestly worth it if you want a really well made fitness bike that's easy to adjust to each user and operate.

Just a heads up, if the one you use at the gym is the Probike version, just check the Atom will match the type of training you've done as they are a little different.

Have to admit I use the treadmill a little more myself at the moment, but my Wife swears by the Wattbike Atom. I'll go back to using the Atom more as the weather improves to build my fitness a bit for road cycling

Atom Vs Pro

Thanks for the reply, we use the Pro with the wattbike app and love it. My preference would be treadmill but due to new hip and the other on it’s last legs in getting into cycling. We thought of getting the Wahoo kickr but this would mean changing bike depending who was using it so wattbike is ideal.

I'm 76, height 5' 7" and 10st 8lbs (BMI of 23) and been using an exercise bike for an hour or so first thing every morning for many years........to hold the conservatory door open for the dog.
(Absolutely true).

I used to have one of these in a new shed, briefly, until I needed the space for three more classic motorbikes.

Dont go out Today, its a bit Windy out there

panda Respect Ann

haganap I think the wide outdoors is your biggest gym with over
100 marathon's run, to say nothing of the Iron man events you have done.

I have nothing but respect for everyone who keeps fit on a regular basis, I enjoyed cycling and walking but always found a excuse not to go to the gym .

Heard this so many times in respect of various activities including gym. It’s called an excuse. If you really want to do something no matter how busy your day/week is you will always find time. Remember your health is your wealth.
Maybe for some.

When I am in the UK, three weeks out four usually. I am full on.

I am up out and at work by 8am. Thats after getting up, breakfast, collating work, emails etc. I am not usually home before 8pm. Monday to Friday.

Weekends, I am up a ladder or under one. Working in the workshop or or cars, Vans motorhomes and the house.

When away in the motorhome, I swim, cycle and walk. When at our house in Spain, working or walking. Some swimming.

I can't find three hours a week plus travel to get to a gym. Our nearest isn't far away. But its not safe to cycle and I don't see the point in driving to that gym.

For me the point of going to a gym is following a doctor's advice. For general fitness get your heart rate above 120 more than 3 times every week he said, now I know people are busy but imo under normal working conditions this doesn't happen often. I can do this cycling but I don't like getting wet so the gym is the answer. Some say they walk but imo this isn't enough unless it's fitness walking and to be honest it's not much fun striding out with someone in the street and dodging traffic.

Old thread but..
I have a bench and adjustable dumbells in a spare room at home and use this 5 times a week. Also a turbo trainer in the garage.
For when I am away in the van I got one of these from Amazon. Keeps the regime ticking over. All I need is somewhere dry and a mat to sit/lie on. In a bigger van you could use it inside. I also use it at home for some exercises ( seated rows, triceps extensions). Goes in a bag and this one comes with a bar. A bit different from weights but the muscles like a change!

Who needs to go to the gym when you are retired with a house, Motorhome wife and 3 sons with their own houses, got too much to do with that lot, no time or energy for the gym 😄😄😄

I walk all the time as I have my dog to think of too! I am 4 stone lighter than I was this time last year. Back then I could only walk a few yards and was out of breath I had back pain and was tired all of the time. I am amazed at how this has changed my life. Walked 8 miles on Sunday with ease, have no more back pain and I am full of energy. If My GP had told me losing this amount of weight would change my life I would not have believed him. I lost the weight purely by cutting the calories, not by going to the gym. I was too embarrassed to walk outside in my shorts so I got myself a treadmill and walked on that for a hour a day. I stuck a notice on the wall next to the treadmill with the words "Operation Save Gina" which I am convinced I have done!! I feel sure I was heading for Diabetes Type 2. At 61, I am proud and still on the journey:giggle:(y)

Used to go to the gym a couple of times a week but when lockdown caused the gym to close I bought a Concept 2 rower.

Over the past 2 years I have rowed 5km most mornings. My total is almost 2 million metres

Haven't lost any weight :-(

I was a gym member for many years and it definitely got me started with running. I had to pass the gate to the gym on my way home from work, so it was quite hard to skive and not go! Used to go 4-5x a week, plus classes. I made some good friends through the gym too.
Nowadays I work from home and no longer have a gym membership. I used a small home treadmill which helped get me through 2020, walking 1000+ miles on it over the year, even when in isolation. I've now upgraded to a much better quality (also much bigger!) treadmill which I usually use first thing in the morning, and usually again at lunchtime for 15-20 minutes and in the early evening. It helps stop me spend too much time sitting and means I can watch guilt-free TV for a while. I watched most of the last series of Masterchef while on the treadmill! I also do Pilates.
I use the Myfitnesspal app to track what I'm eating and drinking. Since 1 Jan I've lost 2 stone, but I have a long way to go...

That's a roundabout way of saying you have to adapt exercise to your life, and what suits you, and that changes for all sorts of reasons. I must say that there are MANY times when I don't want to exercise, but 95% of the time once I'm doing it I enjoy it.

Wife had a hairdressing shop in David Lloyds Gym in Ipswich for 9 years, we got free use of all facilities Inc pool, neither of us ever used anything once.

We'll done. To lose weight calorie deficit is the way to go, a gym will tone up your muscles and exercise your cardio.

Well I used to but sold the house 6 month ago , the pictures are from estate agents site. , building a new house but won’t be having a gym this time

Excellent, you can also get DVD's to watch while you are on your treadmill like walking in the forest and walking on the beaches in Spain(y) I used to watch TV too. My favourite is the cycling DVD which makes you walk faster.

Is that true?

I know that steady tempo runs are best runs for fat burning. I guess fast walking is the non runners equivalent?

Never set foot in one, does that count as regular. I do walk every day in woods or downs regardless of weather due to dogs.
