I'm a newbie
I need to replace the kettle used. It was a spare from home but didn't know if I should check wattage etc., before replacing.

Ahh, I am UK only so have never had this issue!

Sorry.

What would be good is an electric kettle with a whistle that can be used on a gas hob as well
My brother tried that ... my mum had a new kettle many years ago when I was a kid, it looked like a gas kettle but was electric ... yup, you've guessed, he stuck it on the gas cooker and ruined it ... she was not a happy bunny!

A good kettle for gas hob, you can't go far wrong with the IKEA kettles, had ours about 7 years and still perfect, in fact we have another at home that we used in the caravan. 😁

Our electric one is only about 450w hold 1 lt. 🙂 Bob.

Used to carry both. These types.

The electric one works fine, and is quicker than gas, but is now sitting in a cupboard somewhere in the static part of our home. Problem we found is that especially in Italy, the amperage can be as low as 4 amps. The kettle draws about 1.5, so if the boys are on their DVD players (or mum and dad have a cheeky aircon going on) it trips.

Not a problem, unless an irascible site owner has to be called out to unlock the EHU box. For a second time.

So we sacked the Swiss Luxx electric kettle (£13-£15) and the toaster as well, and use one of these collapsible kettles (same price of £13-£15). Works fine and holds enough for two decent sized cups in the morning.

Go gas!
