Which is the best type of hammer to use to hammer in a Jormax windbreak please?

We’re thinking of getting a jormax windbreak. We’re at Topsham and have had 50 mph winds. One couple left their jormax up overnight, presumably by accident the first night but it didn’t budge. They didn’t risk it a second night though!
Ours survived till Thursday but was getting a battering as the ground is not hard enough so it was taken down before the wind took it ;) in general though they are very good.

To answer the original question, a lump hammer as the poles will go through some seriously hard ground but not with a rubber hammer.

Funny this as I was in Skeggy last week (well, Sutton on sea) and ordered a wind break from them. Had to make a change of colour and had an immediate response from Bryn. However I still have had no delivery date and starting to wonder what has happened.
Hi Nirvana,

Why not try contacting Bryn via the Jormax facebook messenger page? He responded almost instantly when I used that option for some pre order advice. I did ask him if the item I wanted was a stock Item and not a made to order item, as ideally we wanted it for next weekend when we go away to a music festival and he said yes it was in stock and kindly promised me he would despatch it immediately so that it arrived in time for the festival.

Hope you enjoyed your trip to Sutton on Sea by the way?

Happy Saturday.

Sue

I like to use a wood mallet , i bought mine at Homebase , cost about £8 i think
Another vote for the good old wooden mallet. It's the perfect compromise between the hard damaging affect of a metal hammer and the over softness of rubber.

Wooden mallets are perfect for aluminium pegs.

Another good tip which was given to me by a Spanish campsite owner. Pour a bucket of water at every place you want your pegs. Then go and have a cuppa/beer for an hour. When you come back the ground will be soft.

Showing a lovely “mushroomed” head, the sort that I taught in metalwork not to develop as the bits can fly everywhere if not dealt with!
The picture shows the dome headed "coach bolt" that they supply to protect the poles from the mushrooming that you describe and would result from hitting the aluminium pole directly with a lump hammer.

After I posted my comment I emailed Bryn and he replied within a minute to say he had shipped it yesterday. It’s Saturday what’s he doing working today!😀😀 trip was a walk down memory lane as I grew up in cleethorpes and did some work in Butlins. It was certainly different in those days.🤣

Use a short piece of re bar slightly smaller than poles. Knock into ground, remove and insert pole.

Aw so glad you got it sorted and it’s on It’s way to you.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to Skegness and yes all of the Lincolnshire coast has certainly changed since my teenage years! But oh my goodness they were fabulous times. I have many precious memories of my misspent youth, especially during the 70’s summer seasons when the resorts were heaving with visitors! I made so many friends and enjoyed many exciting holiday romances!!! 🥰 Oh for sure I certainly have some wonderful memories of growing up in a busy British seaside town. lol 😉😉

Wow! Just had delivery of my 2 Jormax windbreaks. Ordered them on Thursday afternoon, dispatched Friday and they arrived on a Saturday!!! Bryn at Jormax said he thought Monday or Tuesday for delivery, so I was even more delighted that they turned up today 3 days sooner that expected! Now how’s this for excellent, speedy service? I’m very impressed. 😃

After 40 years off putting windbreak/awning/marquee poles into the hardened hardcore filled ground at racetracks I now use a cordless drill to make a hole and just push them in
You’re hardcore ;-)

If you want to avoid damaging the top of the pole, place an old piece of wood over the top first.

I carry one of these 😭😭

Has anyone got a "vision top" windbreak and if so would they recommend that as a suitable option?

Another vote for a heavy lump hammer.

Used them last week in a very windy St David's, didn't budge. They're great 👍

Terry

Mine has just arrived. If you belt them in with a lump hammer are they not difficult to remove?
No, give them a waggle as you pull and they come out fine.

Our Jormax are the vision top ones, I am far too nosey to not have them and they are fine imho

Cuts down the wind and allows you to look out whilst sat down. What's not to like.

Terry

One that does not hurt you when you put your fingers between it and the top of the pole 😂
