I want to buy a mifi unit for my new motorhome I think there’s Maxview and net gear is there anything else if anyone got one how do they perform

I have a different router, a Huawei B535 and i power this with one of these, the price seems to have gone up a lot since I bought mine last year.
Thanks but trying to move away from Chinese. Teltonika made in Lithuania.

I tapped into some 12v wires powering the TV aerial booster and fitted a small rocker switch.
Post #24 in the following thread.
It’ll handle 9-30 volts as a power source, no need for a regulator.

If you want to keep the 240v U.K. plugged step down transformer that Teltonika supply with their routers, (for home/static use maybe?), they also have available a bare ended cable with the power socket connector that can be spliced into any 9-30 Vdc source.

There’s a few RUT950’s on eBay just now around the £140 area, unless you’re after something newer. I’ve found the 950 to be perfect for our needs. I was lucky enough to get ours for £85 off eBay, just needed the latest software update from Teltonika and away we went.

That’s what mine came with as well as the 240v UK plug lead, so I just tapped into existing 12v wires. When buying a used one, the power cable needs to be included because it’s an odd plug.

I was watching one the other day on eBay and was interested in it until I noticed the main case was the wrong way around (blue banner antenna side) so thought may it had a problem and been taken apart.

The older version has to be taken apart to put the sim in, very simple to do though. The newer one has the two top slots, like mine.
This article shows the difference between the older and newer versions.

I had the RUT 950 but there was too much faffing and the roof antena (which I still have doing nothing in a box) need a hole in the roof!

I went with a Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 Router in the end. 5G very fast and no issues with signal so far. I only need that when im static as the phones, tablets etc all have their own sim.

Motorhome WiFi have always looked after us - when we get stuck - one phone call or email - so good product, great after sales service - nice people - get it cheaper buying from Amazon etc - but you are on your own.

Good product, yes but it’s not theirs. What you’re paying for is them putting together a package and the advice/support they can give if you’re not sure.
When I looked at having a system I didn’t understand very much about it at all, I got very confused by people constantly referring to ‘MiFi’s and Huawei appeared to be the only choice with many different model designations.
It was only when I looked at getting a system fitted that I started to realise Avtex was really a Teltonika router matched with a Panorama aerial and Motorhome WiFi also used Panorama aerials but with Huawei routers.
I think the various companies, Avtex, Motorhome WiFi etc put together some good systems, but with a good markup too but I preferred to dictate my own specs having learned more about them.
Regarding support, have a look at the Teltonika support page.

Netgear M2 for me, though i do also use a motorhome wifi set up sometimes. the only downside i have with the m2 is when i try to tether it to an existing network (and not using the sim card) - thats when the motorhome wifi system comes into its own!

for roaming use via the sim ive never had an issue around different parts of France or the UK with the M2
Do you use a UK sim or buy sim card in country you are visiting?

I use a Huawei B535 with a Poynting antenna and I find it works well, can’t comment on using abroad but I can’t see why it wouldn’t work with a local sim.

I have previously used a UK sim, but as things have changed, I may consider a local one. I had my M2 unlocked last year so that should help if necessary. I have used a roof mounted aerial but to be honest I didn't find any issues without it being connected to the roof mounted aerial.

Do you use an external aerial with it or is it fine without?
When in the Van it is connected to the roof mounted Antenna, i have it hard wired to a mounting plate in the van
The Antenna i use is a "Mobilemark".
When we leave the van, say on our bikes into a new place or town i put the router in my pocket or rucksack with a good powerpack fully charged and it works like it says, It is a Mobile WiFi Router afterall.
