Having read previous posts about 3500kg weight increase we have started to look at options. Have contacted SV tech and Van weight engineering but alarming have had complete opposite answers back. SV telling us we need air assist at the rear and Vwe saying no mods required...
The van is a 2022 ducato based al-ko chassis with standard spring/shocks up front and leaf springs/shocks in the rear running 116 rated tyres, we need to sort this asap as the log book has been incorrectly filled in at GWE of 2908kg by main dealer when we purchased van. We have spoke to them to sort this but getting nowhere which is disappointing but what we expected with all the other mistakes they made on collection.
We are in theory overweight before we start but at 3850kg would be running nowhere near the limit and a rfl refund is always a nice start to the new year.

No problem at all - hope it gets sorted for you. Ours was a simple paperwork exercise (and a lot cheaper than the original option would have been from new).

Have uprated two vans using SV, first 2012 Elddis Aspire 255, it had been uprated to 3700 by /Glossops as the 214 kg payload was a joke. To take it to 3850 kg would require semi air and if I wanted to get 2240kg over the rear axle tyres had to go from 215/70/r15 to 225/70/r15. Second 2019 Burstner on Fiat Heavy chassis was bought new at 4000kg to uprate it to 4500kg was just paperwork. When I asked VU was told I could take it up to 5000kg with just them doing the paperwork. Given the layout of the van and the long overhang this would have easily overloaded the rear axle.

In the process of up-playing using VWE.
I would be surprised if Dee just gave you the one choice. In my case I was offered a paperwork change from 3650 to 3850, but Dee correctly pointed out that wouldn’t be good enough for the rear axle, hence air getting to 4250.

SV told us we need to add semi air to get to 3850 even though I had already told them we’re currently at that weight without! Went with VWE instead to get to 4250.

No Alko chassis has leaf springs!

with regard to the dealer underquoting GVW on the V5c, check your VIN plate. https://spinner28.wixsite.com/tonys-towing-trivia/post/weights-vin-plates

If it’s a simple matter of the V5c not matching the VIN plate, you can simply inform DVLA (with a photo of your VIN Plate), and they issue a new V5c.

I did this successfully last year and had my V5c’s GVW uprated to 3700kgs, matching the VIN plate. I had a refund of VED within a couple of weeks!

tbh only asked for 3850kg as thats all we will ever need....

I'm not sure there's any point in paying to up plate if you don't increase the rear axle by adding air assist. At 3500/3650kg you have 2000kg rear axle and you still have the same limit at 3850kg without air assist.

Just used VWE and Dee was great and made the process easy. I added rear air and uprated to 4250, whole process took about a month with the DVLA new V5 and refund.

I sent the docs on the 12th of December (special del) and got a response letter with my original documents back - dated the 23rd of December, refund letter on the 4th Jan. A slight delay due to the postage strike and Xmas so landed on my door step around the 6th.

Also sent special delivery which is why I know they received 9 December. Just checked online and new V5C issued Monday so hopefully hear today or tomorrow. Clearly not doing in date received order
