Which country is on the edge of your comfort zone to visit in the motorhome?

As above, I have a few years to retirement and all around I see on the news various countries turning to Rats##t (you could visit Ukraine more than a few years ago) and I’m hoping the list of countries to visit doesn’t get any narrower (the 90 days crap is bad enough).
So looking where I would love to visit when I retire and is on the edge of my comfort zone is Georgia via Türkiye, what’s yours?
Iraq

And for a very good reason Carolyn😂😂
I was thinking of that beautiful city where we stayed outside the Townhall and the Mayor welcomed us you old grumpy guts Howard!

I hope not too dubious as we are planning to visit in May/June!
Passed through on our way to Greece last April. Stopped at the site in Belgrade for the weekend. Had a great couple of nights out. Nice small city, locals seem freindly enough. No other stops. Motorway was fine. Approx 30min queue at borders but no issues. Never felt unsafe.

Great thread idea and something I've been thinking about since we bought our motorhome in July 2023. I've been fascinated by overland travel all my life. In 2017 we travelled by train from Caterham in Surrey to Singapore, all apart from a couple of buses from Northern Vietnam, through Laos, to the Thai border.

I've recently read a brilliant book all about the Hippy Trail and following a majority of the Silk Route. That's the dream but sadly there are a few obstacles preventing this being done without flying. The latest issue being Azerbaijan refusing to open their land and sea borders. I think this would probably be another bus, train and boat journey for me rather than driving it as getting authorisation to take the van through Georgia to Azerbaijan, across the Caspian sea to Kazakhstan and then on through Uzbekistan etc to either Pakistan or China would I'm sure be fraught with hassles.

Another trip that I'm very keen to do but am unsure if it's possible would be to visit every European country in one trip in the motorhome. The 90 day Brexit rule would probably prevent this being done without having to rush everywhere which isn't quite the point of making the journey. But I did do a rough calculation on the mileage and it was around 10,000 miles give or take. That feels like an epic trip and something I'd love to attempt if time wasn't restricted.

One thing’s for sure ,I will at no time be getting on a horse! Claire has just reminded me of a very embarrassing episode in Costa Rica on a family holiday when we were supposed to be going on a horseback ride. They all heard this hysterical screaming and looked round to see me jumping off and walking back to the ranch. Not my finest moment!

We’re going with GB motorhome tours , the same company that we visited Turkey&Cyprus in 23, and Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia in 24.

I know people go on about how much more cheaply we could do it on our own but it’s good fun and these are a bit outside our comfort zone on our own but now that we’ve done them they’re on the edge.

Some of the places we stayed in Turkey would not have been available to your ordinary folk either.

We do plenty on our own in your traditional European countries.
Sorry I beg to differ your often on a high horse

Interesting. What type of motorhome did they have? Currently crossing overland between Georgia and Azerbaijan or obviously going through Russia is either very tricky or outright impossible. From Kazakhstan onwards it would theoretically be possible to get into China and then down through Vietnam to Thailand but I think there are some issues importing a foreign registered vehicle into China unless that's changed.

They're in a Ford 4x4 with a camper body on it .

You'll find them on Instagram @offthemainroad

You can't go through Azerbaijan...the border is closed. I was In Georgia last march/April....could enter Armenia no problem from Georgia but not turkey and no entry to Azerbaijan.

They went through part of Russia. Not sure if it would be so easy for brits , they had to apply for visa's and permits etc.

Actually met 3 other couples at thermal hotsprings in Georgia who were travelling in the same escorted group as the Belgians, French and German couples , 2 were in old mid 90's fiat ducato based motorhomes.

Edit*

They also had a German shepherd dog which I believe added further complications but they seemed to manage it all OK.

Thank you. This makes me wish I had even a little bit of mechanical knowhow to be able to confidently do a trip like that.

Yes I'm aware of that. Their land and sea borders have been closed since Covid. Currently it's up until April 2025 but no doubt their crazy Prime Minister will extend it again.

Neither of them did lol. I had to jump-start their truck on 2 occasions.. mechanically clueless they were

Yes I wanted to do Azerbaijan myself but couldn't.

Just spent many hours going over the old sites we have used over the years.....fell off my perch with the prices. Tried looking at new sites and decided it's Europe for us again this year....even allowing for Tunnel costs.
I'll pay for quality but not for having the Piss taken.

The poster did say “country” , however we happily view Liverpool as separate Republic (Hence the LFC Kop flag Scouse not English) .

Purely for information purposes,
In 2022, Liverpool welcomed 31.5 million visitors, a 32% increase from 2021. The Liverpool City Region attracts around 60 million visitors each year.

So you won’t be breaking any new ground by coming to see us and you will be made very welcome…
Yeh but how many got out :ROFLMAO: ;)

We met a Korean couple in Morocco 3 weeks ago, the left S Korea via ferry to Vladivostock last June and have taken the long way round, including Scandinavia and UK and were planning to go back via turkey and Georgia but cant remember the rest of the toute because I was too gobsmacked

Iran - I value my freedom! 😅

Hired in Australia, New Zealand and Canada. My camper has been to Greece including Albania, Montenegro, Romania and Bulgaria on one trip ,We avoided Serbia. Did Norway Sweden on another. Really hope Ukraine will be possible soon as with a visit to Poland and up to Baltics and Finland, which would complete the European countries I want to visit.
