Which bicycles can I buy that isnt made in China?

China is a massive country with a lot of mouths to feed.
Their current regime will be difficult to dislodge and they are hell bent on world domination.
Like a lot of business's they want to control "most" of the market, to do this you dont start by making quality products at cheap prices.
You do it by buying other business's, undercutting prices and flooding markets. It drives competition under, making way for them to raise their prices when they have a bigger market share.
Years ago you could not pick anything up without it being stamped made in England.
These days you would be hard pushed to find something that was'nt made in China.
I can remember being up the Empire State building and on the bottom of a comemerative Mug it said Made in China.

Both Orange (high end models) & Hope are Purely British Bike companies located on either side of the pennine’s. They design, manufacture & build their own brands of proper Mountain Bikes for customers with deep pockets.😉👍 They are excellent by the way😁

🤣 you forgot Germany!
After all Sram’s technical HQ & design centre are located in Germany 🇩🇪 😉👍 These parts are but the ancillaries, the frames & essentially the bikes themselves are British, especially Hope. As well designing & manufacturing the frames, they make the majority of the components that go on the bikes. Essentially the wheels, the cranks, the chainrings, the bearings, the bottom brackets, the stems, the bars, the pedals err do I need to go on?
Besides, the UK have never had a major derailleur gear based manufacturer & after all there’s essentially only two main global component manufacturers that make gearing SRAM & Shimano with Campagnolo a chasing third so you’ll not find many if any bikes in the UK without one of these brands components fitted. Unless you start to look at Rolhof gearbox drive systems, now they’re German🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣👍

Tbf, I was only commenting on the manufacturing location but only to point out that it would be very difficult to obtain a bike without components that could have been made in China.

However, if you have any clout with Hope, any chance if a test ride on an HB.T? ;)

I wish, my pockets aren’t that deep. I do own at lot of their products but sadly not one of their bikes & they do make very desirable bikes, plus I love their current ethic of getting juniors into the sport with their range of Hope Academy bikes for the little un’s. 👍😉

My Orange Duster 8 has Shimano & SRAM components.
Still been a great MTB for me tho

edit:
Wrong Bike builder! Charge made my Duster - still a UK firm though
But it is hard to avoid components being made in China

If you want to buy a bike with parts not made in China you might get further with Campagnolo components, it’s Italian , top quality , beautifully engineered and all of their production facilities are within Europe.

Yep, there are loads of other British frame builders out there, Bird, Charge, Stanton, Planet X, On One, Pace, the list goes on Foreve. Some of whom design, manufacture & build but there are no major British players in the gearing industry apart from the few that manufacture cranks, chain rings & bottom brackets Etc. Thankfully not much if any of SRAM & Shimano’s products are made in China specifically.

As above, buy campagnolo ?

I had to look up hybrid bikes!

Cotic Roadrat. Cotic (Cy) is a great British bike designer, steel, ride very well and made near Sheffield. I've got an old Cotic Soul, steel hardtail - love it. Served as my all-rounder until I took it apart and didn't put it together again.

There are so many great specialist British bike companies; I'm more into mountain bikes but there are are hybrids too. Lots of frames are designed elsewhere and made in Taiwan which is the place for high-quality frames.

For more suggestions, ask on the singletrackworld.com forum.

Just had a flick through the suggestions... I'd second Whyte, then Orange for quality. Don't know about their hybrid bikes but they make good mountain bikes. Looks like the Cotic Roadrat is out of production, replaced by the Escapade.

Also some of 'Bird, Charge, Stanton, Planet X, On One, Pace, the list goes on'.

Less sophisticated but better value are the big German/EU bike companies who pioneered direct sales eg Canyon are good value and product. Cube seem fine but last time I looked seemed to be more budget-oriented.

The specialist stuff is often available used on PinkBike, Singletrackworld classifieds or eBay as long as you don't insist on this year's model.
