I totally blame the farming and fishing industries. Plus the planet is way overpopulated.
Now before some of you get over excited about what I said listen to my reasoning.

1. The seas have been massively overfished for years resulting in an extremely low population stock. I think there should be a total ban on sea fishing for a minimum of 5 years, possibly 10 to let the numbers recover to a sustainable level. Then heavily restrict the catch numbers.
As a result the shite hawks have had to adapt and move inland to find food.

2. Farmers have been allowed to poison the land and waterways for decades by using hugely powerful insecticides. This has resulted in hardly any bugs for the local bird population to eat. They have effectively been starved out of existence. Yes, cats take a few each year but only a minute fraction of the total. We see those and imagine it’s a huge amount. It isn’t.
Now, farmers have been “ forced “ into using these poisons by the overpopulation of the planet in an attempt to feed too many people. Supermarkets have to take some of the blame too by pressuring farmers into growing the perfect shape crops ( huge waste ) and in massive amounts and under paying them in an attempt to be the cheapest.
I don’t blame them for putting solar panels everywhere now instead but there’s another joke. Renewables!

Cats are credited with killing 55 million birds each year .

We shoot birds to eat too don't we?? pheasant, partridge, pigeon and grouse. I don't see them anymore around here either. I once saw 6 male pheasants sitting in line on the fence on our field. I wish I had my phone with me at the time it was so funny.
I don't

Really? I never knew this. What birds are caught or shot in France to eat, please?
You will have to Google for the information I'm at work

Less of
Wasps
Swifts and swallows
Horse flys
Butterflies
More of
Parakeets
Slugs
We are in rural Cheshire
I’ve just driven from Valencia to Bilbao and the van is ( relatively) bug free , in May it was Armageddon.

I searched Google and read a couple of articles. It made me feel physically sick. I had no idea thins kind of thing went on in France (or anywhere else for that matter) or how many birds are killed for 'pleasure' each year, let alone the methods they use. It's totally barbaric, particlularly in a country that pretends to care about the environment.

We should all be aware of what goes on around the world. I always feel sad and angry in equal measures whenever I learn about abuse and wanton destruction of the natural world. And for what?

Greed and entitlement, mostly. It's very depressing

We often have a squadron of sparrows in our garden early morning. Yesterday whilst making breakfast the tweeting stopped and they all flew off. I didn’t see what it was but something big and brown took off from the fence.
Recently we have had a male Robin in the garden. When I open the shed or workshop door it flys in and sits on the shelf. I must check he has left before locking up.
