Motorhomes aside, that's ridiculous. If you go on holiday for two weeks, stay at a hotel, your car is in the hotel car park each night (and some days perhaps) it's not insured without telling the insurance company first? I've never told them and I never will.
If you are staying in a hotel, your car is in your care custody and control, you could also look at if you stay on a campsite and go into town on a bus where could that leave you. If you leave your car at your storage place and go off in the van the car technically is no longer in your care custody or control. When you take your car in for a service as soon as you leave it it is in the garage’s care custody or control. As I have said before the insurance companies main aim is to cover you for everything except what you claim for.
