Excluding caravans and tents.. solely a motorhome aire.. When would it stop becoming just an aire in your eyes? Pitch price, extras like toilets, showers, ehu, I need the feedback.

Hook up and reasonably priced. Nothing else other than waste maybe

Aires are should not be designed for anything other than motorhomes to stay maximum 2-3 nights with fresh water and dumps for black & grey waste available all for free or a reasonable fee.and booking
Having elh, toilets, long stays and booking should be reserved for proper sites

I have to add the existing "aire" already EHU, fresh water and toilet dump.

In the UK, most of the time, an Aire is just a CL by another name.
So on that basis what would you call a current " aire with EHU" that is now looking to install toilets and showers?..obviously with inflated prices than the current £15 per night.

When we licence/exempt an Aire/CL the owner is encouraged to operate without a booking process in the spirit of the French system But ultimately it is up to them. When we have thousands of Aires this might be more realistic, but with so few, a hundred or so, it's easy to be overrun. For now, I suggest you think of them like CLs, booking might be required; a bonus if it isn't.

Also, every Aire we exempt is a private property rather than council-owned affair (like many French Aires are), so some Aires will want to develop into small sites and increase their charges when they add showers ect. Personally, I'm just happy to add another place to camp in the UK, we need every pitch we can get.

The "Aire" already facilitates a booking system.
To me that's not an Aire but a campsite of some sort, the whole point of Aires is to come and go as you wish, no access to/egress by times which a booking system would likely have, eg turning up mid-morning and stay until teatime the following day would likely mean paying for 2 nights even though you only actually stay for one.

If you leave the spot you're on it's then fair game for someone else to use, if you return and it's been taken then use another, no 'pitch' booking or blocking with chairs, bikes etc as some nationalities do!

The whole point to me is to have the freedom to come and go with no impediment which a booking system would cause.

I agree, and I’m trying to discourage them from installing toilets and showers with inflated prices, already £15 per night with elec which motorhomes don’t really need so inflated prices in top of this is hardly going to encourage the street campers (me included) to go park up on the “aire” which was originally created to try to discourage street beachside parking.

I’ve been looking today at possible aires/cl for next few weeks away Dumfries and Galloway area up into highlands. Just wanted combinations of cheap reasonable and free but the prices for cl’s £20 a night upwards and one was an eye watering £35 a night (yes it was only a cl)
Forestry parking will do now as there is no way I’m paying that for a cl

Roll on France next month 12 weeks of not having to plan your next move :france:

I was going to ask why you were asking... but your last post makes it clear.

Sounds like "creep" to me, i.e. it is becoming something it was never created to be. I would agree that if I had the option of on street beachside parking or £15 camping fees, I'd choose the beachside every time.

However what I would expect to happen is some kind of MH ban on street parking and an increase in camping fees in the near future, because the "administration" don't understand why their policies are not working, so driving MH's away and doing the opposite of the original plan.

If it has Water, Black, Grey and household waste that's all that's required.

Cheers
Red.

Yep, its a campsite / CL.
Eg. The Aire at Honfleur Quay last month had 5 Amp EHU, dump and water for 100 units, but definitely NO SHOWERS or TOILETS.

Have a look at the Council owned parking area outside the gate of the C&MC site at New England Bay if your heading that far west.
Free with a toilet and fresh water.

Thank you for the reminder. I did see that area when on the site a few years ago with the odd van in there(y)

An Aire is car park with larger spaces and dump and fill facilities.

Booking implies you need staff to monitor which spaces are in use... which probably increases staff costs. Unless you have some sort of fancy barrier control system where you can scan booking codes or the registration plate.

I'd say when there is a warden

Jim

Where can I find a list of all of the "Aires/CLs" MHF has licenced please? Without a list in one place it is difficult to know where these are.

It’s again as others have said a camp site there are the same in Hartlepool outside a sports centre.

I think this is an interesting discussion and posted a link to it onto the Campra forum, so they might discuss it there

This was the response I received. Charming!
