We have had our motorhome for about 3 years now and recently I decided I would take a trip to our local weigh bridge to check its weight. The wife was at work so my son jumped in and on the way I wished I had filled up but there was approx half a tank so would just need to add 25kgs to the weight. Well you guessed it I was 60Kgs over weight, when you swap my son for the wife and dog we would have been 100kgs over and add a full tank and a bit of water and food probably 150Kgs +.
it’s easily done and £10 at your local weigh bridge is cheap compared to a fine.

Did you notice if they pulled any other wee MoHo's - Or only the monster ones :drinks:
TBH, I never get pulled, but wander in voluntarily if I know they are open.

I was given a local phone number by one of the weighbridge officials, to call to check availability, but that went down like a lead balloon when I did phone to ask if they were open. "How did you get this number? Who gave it to you? Blah Blah Blah."

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I wonder if they've realised yet......that's the reason to uprate.
You wouldn't be contacting them if you were ½ ton under.

When did you last weigh your motorhome.?

Last May, just off the A1 Southbound on the VOSA/DVSA Weighbridge at Sawtry, and in full holiday mode.
A total weight of 5,720Kgs, leaving us 1,130Kgs of spare payload. That's a lot of beer and wine. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
I bet that the DVSA guys were disappointed

Ha ha Dave.
The first time I took the Hymer in after up plating her, the inspector was a big German chap. I went into the office to pick up my ticket. I said to him, "How did she do?" to which he replied, "Vou have capacity for vun can of Coca-cola, und vun packet of sandviches." He then told me that I could go home and load up. When I informed him that I was already loaded (apart from Rita and food), with all tanks full, (except waste obviously), he was quite impressed, as I had almost a tonne spare payload. (y)

I have always found them to be helpful and accommodating, however, I have seen the other side of them when idiot chancers try it on with them. I used to regularly take a break in the public parking area, when couriering locally, and the greater majority of vehicles pulled in are on foreign plates. Very few are on UK plates. What does that tell you? ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

to answer topic question 3 years ago laden with 150kg spare (ready for bikes) then uplated and got another 350kg so no need as i monitor it with a spreadsheet.
this ones handy. (not as much as a spare ton and half but sufficient.)

Think I need to weigh mine. Had it up plated when I bought it as I knew the standard payload was low but haven’t checked actual as yet.

My MOT tester said..... blimey you've no worries about payload....lol.... he is a motorhomer too.... mine went to test with full fuel, gas and usual kit in it so I only needed to pop Mrs Sg, tank of water, fridge of food, clothes and 2 bikes on the rack.... which won't eat too much into the 600 kg I had spare.... coming from a Bongo Camper where travelling light matters.... the old habits remain Safe Travels all......

I weighed mine a few weeks ago when I finished nailing it together, all done, with half tank of diesel and 2 people on board, with all the kit, 2300kg, plenty of weight to spare, but no space to carry it!
