We have had our motorhome for about 3 years now and recently I decided I would take a trip to our local weigh bridge to check its weight. The wife was at work so my son jumped in and on the way I wished I had filled up but there was approx half a tank so would just need to add 25kgs to the weight. Well you guessed it I was 60Kgs over weight, when you swap my son for the wife and dog we would have been 100kgs over and add a full tank and a bit of water and food probably 150Kgs +.
it’s easily done and £10 at your local weigh bridge is cheap compared to a fine.

Wallet so she cannot buy anything else.. we have a very well travelled awning, windbreaker, toastie maker, fan heater, cooling fan, vacuum cleaner, 2 sets of bedding, 2 sets of towels. 2 x full gas bottles enough cleaning gear to do our house 10 x over, enough shampoo and conditioner to last 5 years, washing line thingy, 2 dog leads and about 500 Poo bags oh and not forgetting the shag pile carpet.
I am guilty as I have a tool kit that has about 4 spanner’s in that I know i will not use in the motorhome.

Are you C1 licence limited?
A basic uplift to 3850kg would solve most of your issues, as long as you don't start adding spare kitchen sinks ect. ;)

Uprated mine to 4250. It was simple do to. I added rear air suspension because I was carrying a motorcycle in the rear garage but it would go to 3850 with no modifications.

I did weigh it once in France when it was fully loaded and it was only around 3800.

Mine was 60kg under at @3440kg. Not sure about the axle weights as the weigh bridge didnt have to option to do that . I was going to increase the weight, but on hold for now as i may put air assist on the rear later this year.

Fully loaded - so I uplated to 3.9. Quite an easy process.

Yes Mike I have a C1 and currently looking at upping the weight to 3850kg but that only means we can carry even more stuff.

Weighed it in the early days when we were fully loaded including the dog and food with all tanks full as well. 20kg under the limit so never bothered since as there would be no changes to what we took, inless we got anything bigger than the KCS in future.

Last April. 3480kg so very close to the limit.
That was however with a full 140L of water and a full tank of diesel.

At Peterborough a couple of years ago by SV Tech. Individual weights for each wheel - fully loaded water fuel and gas still had over 800kg to spare. They said that 60% of the vans they weighed were overweigh; one by nearly 500kg

Weighed it when we first got it. Was 3400 kg, fully loaded with both of us, water, fuel and cupboards full. Was going to add a swing out bike rack but got two bromptons instead which take up all underbed storage. They and their LA batteries come in at least 15 kg each and we added a solar panel. Now a 10 kg dog too. So we are close to legal limits but on maxi chassis so feel not too close to safety limits.

when we first bought it, then when ready for the off and again when we changed to an easylifter and motorbike, 3.5 and a few kilos to spare. Van is almost empty now and we will revise what we take, the new ramps are mega heavy so think we will be taking the old ones as they have always been high enough 🤞I haven't jinxed it.
We have always checked the weights, easy for us as we can use the weighbridge at Hull Docks even risked it once when vosa or whoever checks was there we had about 200K to spare that time, but a different van.

When did you last weigh your motorhome.?

Last May, just off the A1 Southbound on the VOSA/DVSA Weighbridge at Sawtry, and in full holiday mode.
A total weight of 5,720Kgs, leaving us 1,130Kgs of spare payload. That's a lot of beer and wine. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

Last van I used to weigh before every trip as we were on the limit on the rear axle I used to carry 40 Lt of water in the garage as it only had a little 100 Lt water tank. Conveniently we had a DVSA weighbridge 2 miles from home that was free.
Current van not weighed for a couple of years as the weighbridge has gone but last time fully loaded for a trip full tank 160 Lt of water and fuel nearly full it was 4250 kg we had 250kg spare it was about 100 kg up on the previous weighing, plenty spare on the axles. Not got enough space to overload it so I'm happy.

You do realise the allowable weight for a motorhome driver is 75 k
I don't have a problem with that.

It's ok... Got the wife on a Gin free diet so we can average out. (y) (y)
Thats until the Fun rallies start

Got a print out at last MoT . Confirms my mobile weigh scales readings, I'll have it with me at any fun rally I attend, happy to weigh for a donation to charity. Can't do tag axles.

I wonder if they've realised yet......that's the reason to uprate.
You wouldn't be contacting them if you were ½ ton under.

Spot on 3500Kg in battle trim with full fuel and water plus an extra 20Kg of water in Sep 21. To be caught transgressing for any additions, it would have to be immediately after I'd filled up with fuel and water at a garage. I'm going to take the table off and weigh that as I'm sure I could make something lighter although there may only be a few kilos in it and not worth the bother. Thinking about changing the spare to just a tyre.
