I think for that kind of money it is actually looks quite nice, not so sure about practicality, all depends what you are aiming to do with it 👍

I think it’s worth about 4k - It’s a very basic self build.
If it’s your first van then buy a well known branded van with a loo and shower, that way you’ll not lose a lot if you change it.
Just done a quick look on Autotrader and there are 300 vans under 10k. Not all branded but a good 30 plus that you could choose from and use without losing too much.

Interesting... looking at the other mileages though I wonder if the Oct mileage was actually 62,202 and not 65,202

Would fit the general usage history and a 5 and a 2 are often confused.

Assuming the condition is as described and everything works properly and the self-conversion is to a decent standard then I think that's a pretty reasonable starting price personally. You could probably knock 1K off asking price

About 4k for me too, way to much wood in there to cart around, lots of thick worktop, lots of glass on the sides hard to keep warm or cold, and I see no shower.
There is nothing inside there that attracts me at all. Just my opinion.

I just had a look too. Currently there's an LDV Maxus and a Citroen Relay Luton at £6.5k and another two LDV Maxus at £2,500 and £2,690 respectively.

That's it under £7k and all of these are just vans that would need converting.

I personally think that £6-7k for a converted (even if basic) van with fridge etc isn't bad.

Sure, if you ramp the budget up to £10k for the base van and do a 'cheap' conversion then you can get more for your money but you're looking at £800 for solar, £200 for fridge, £100 for a skylight, £800 for windows, then the insulation, panelling, furniture, flooring, cooker, sink & plumbing and....

Very easy to be spending double what that LDV convoy would cost, plus that's 'ready to go' without needing to be converted.

Depends on the OP's budget and expectations. It's unlikely to still be on the road in 10 years, but as a cheap and ready made starting point then I don't think it's bad.

Looks lovely and homely, but there will be a lot of weight in all that wood!
If it’s just for a holiday in the summer maybe would be ok but I think you could do better, that may prove difficult to move on when you’ve ‘grown’ out of it!

It doesn't appear have a place for a portapotty, I guess they would show it if it did. It's got a v small fridge. It's a twin rear wheel and the lower road tax so will be over 3500kg. Do you have C1? Should be decent payload despite the weight of the wood.

But looks a reasonable home conversion although you can't see if the electrics, gas system and heater are safely done. I would hope there's sensible insulation behind the tongue and groove.
If you know about those things it's worth a look.

I like it, it's quirky! The transit 2.4 tdci is a good strong uncomplicated engine. I like the retro look inside. It's disappointing it hasn't had a washroom/toilet included. If the bodywork is rustish free and the chassis is sound that's even better. If the mileage is about 65,000 even better. For £6000 you would get a great van to have a lot of adventures and FUN with. Some people pay £4000 + for a comfortmatic gearbox repair!!!

It's a very pretty conversion compared to many

It must be me! I think it’s a glorified shed. Because I looked at it yesterday or day before eBay sent me a message saying the posters open to offers. So if OP is still thinking about it there’s room for negotiation 😉

Do you mind regular maintenance?
No rot mentioned but brakes and brake pipes always coming up as corroded and faulty.

Here's the MOT summary.......
Red - fail
Amber - advisories
Green - pass

Would be unusual to find a LDV of that age without rust issues.
Not much to go wrong mechanically other than steering stub axels which are a pain to repair and getting the parts may now be difficult.

As mentioned rust would be the main concern along with parts supply. Engine and gearbox are standard Ford Duratorq/MT75 this should be OK, although there were lots of issues with DMF’s when new as LDV bought a job lot from Ford without any warranty. LDV went out of business maybe 15 years ago and the new LDV branded vans are through a Chinese company.

Maxus was a joint venture with Daewoo at the time, remember they moved a production line from Eastern Europe to Birmingham only to find the measurements were wrong and it wouldn’t fit in the factory so they split it into three and there were two guys at the end of each section. Their job was to take the part produced van which was on a dolly, turn it around and put it back into the next section.

We used to sell loads of these back in the day as good value for money. Still have the workshop manuals on CD if you do decide to go ahead, can’t help with parts catalogues as these went online and are probably not available anymore.

I said in my earlier post that they moved to the transit 2.4 but they used the older 2.5 tranny engine which was pretty un breakable 👍I think the Chinese version was the one that the doors fell off and I’m not sure if they used a old VM engine ? Either way the convoy was a decent van. I don’t know where people are getting all the rust from ? My last one the chassis was like new at 9 years old and at the time my mate was welding new rear floors in 5 years old Transits

Twin rear wheels and £165 road tax = over 3500kg and needs a C1 licence category.
Can't drive it on a normal car (group B) licence..
Mine weren’t over 3.5 ton.If I remember right I think they had 1.5 ton payload ie van was 2ton empty
Somethings not adding up - probably me 😁

looks quite good, it has the 2.5 Duratorq with very low milage and they are known to be reliable, and if serviced regularly last for a few hundred thousand miles, the LDV,S were bought all the time to replace the high mileage transit engines with only the pump to change, the rest of the van is keeping it up to an mot standard, but it is already kitted out so i would have it inspected to ensure there is no hidden welding that may need doing, you could probably put a little more to the price and get a better van but if you like it you like it, if you have any doubts leave it alone you will find the one for you, good luck with the van hunt

I think it looks amazing in the photos but you may find in reality it’s not quite so amazing. But then the old adage you get what you pay for comes to mind and if that’s where your budget is and is has a years MOT (if not ask them to put that on) then go for it. Expect nothing and hopefully have a jolly year of maybe two? Who knows? I wish you all the best 😊
