Burstner A645 Active
Bumped into another retro Burstner owner today. He had quite a nice looking A747 Active on a Tag chassis (iirc) from the early 2000s.
We have an '03 A645 Active so a bit smaller but about the same age and pretty much the same passenger capacity.
Anyways his carpet shop is adjacent to a small time motorhome dealer who he'd gone to as he was thinking of replacing his ageing moho with something similar but a bit newer.
I was quite surprised to hear that the dealer had suggested he put his up for sale (privately) at £28k and the justification for this was the modern charging set up 3x lithium batteries and assorted usb type chargers around the place....

I fully appreciate that things are only worth as much as someone was willing to pay, but it did seem a bit toppy, if what people are saying is true about the market starting to slow and stock building up, especially as it was an 02-03 model and over 3.5t so presumably the cheaper end of the market and a diminishing number of potential drivers able to use it...

Other than for general discussion, do you think a decent solar and battery system with usb's justifies top whack or are there better mods which would increase resale value? He mentioned he also ran 3x cassettes with the toilet, so didn't have to worry too much about in the black waste department.

Opine away people!

I had a 2003 model burstner argos I bought in 2010 ...so 7 years old at the time . I paid £25k for it ....sold it 14 months later for £17k plus a 1999 hymer 6 berth coachbuikt which I then sold for £15k . So £32k in total . And that was 14 years ago.

I still see many of them on ebay around the £20-21k price tag which I think in today's market that's probably about right if in good condition.
I think to get £28k it would have to be something very special and I'd be surprised if a dealer offered anywhere near that. I reckon a dealer wouldn't pay more than £15k for one.

They were good family vans with loads of storage and mine was in great condition having only 28000 miles on it.

While lithium’s a good mod it will not put any value on your van, but it will make it more attractive to buyers. If you put two identical vans together the one with all the extras will sell first. Look at it as you use your extras for your “comfort” and how you use the van . Just because someone spends 10k on extras doesn’t mean it adds 10k -if they’re lucky a couple of K at most

That's nothing mileage wise. Ours has done 120,000km the engine will be good for 3x that but as 22yrs old and counting the interior is starting to get a bit tired. With 3 young children we need something pretty robust and simple!

Much cheaper to have it re upholstered and tidied up, if your happy with the van and it’s reliable.

Done that before, twice now.
And if done right it adds to value

Good ideas on the refurb front. Would need the whole Moho going through but as you say, if we can improve and upgrade without spending what the newer one would cost (probs in region of £5k) then it's worthwhile.

I think we need some of the internal woodwork fixing as well so it might not quite worth our while. We shall see!

what a dealer sells a van for and what a private seller sells a van for should be 2 different prices, some of these private sellers need to realise what dealer services ect dealers are suplying (or say they are supplying)....anyway i have had vans from dealers and private sellers .i have never paid the full price on the screen of any van brand new and used .big deposit or out rite buy equals money off and rite time rite place some times these dealers just need sales
