What's happening with Britstops?

Thing is... if you were going to a pub anyway, it's a free nightspot

If you self cater, then a campsite 'might' be better value

Depends on what & how you travel
exactly..

a site would generally be cheaper than meals and drinks for two in a pub.. circa £40-£50?

if pub stops are your thing, P4N and S4S have them all . or use this Google map for pub stops

Over the years we have stayed at several pubs where food is not being served on that particular day of the week, and on two occassions where the pub wasn't even open. On each occasion, we have been welcome to overnight, even when the pub was not open.

We rarely drink alcohol, and even then it's in low quantities, so I don't ever remember spending more than £40 for two as suggested by scotjimland., and often much less.

Yes a campsite might be cheaper that a meal and drinks in a pub. But then you don't get a meal and some drinks at a campsite included in the price🤔

I don't disagree. I was just levelling the argument and the comparison. Must be £30 worth of food and drink there though.

Yes it's a matter of choice of course. We tend to mix and match. We often stay at pubs when travelling.

yes, it's not really about the cost..

it's what you prefer;.. and enjoy .. that dictates

I got an email from Britstops saying they will reduce my subscription if i renew which i didnt do as missed the email, i did email them but they are not responding so will not be renewing at the full price as its just too much. I have been with them for a long time but now its £44 thats over what I am willing to pay. I am going away this weekend and staying in a Pub carpark due to convenience and they have replied and are happy for us to do so, this was found on search4sites. We will be going in both evenings for meals as i dont mind supporting them when they are providing a service.
I understand these things do cost money but i think they have hiked it a little too much in a short space of time probably trying to recoup the costs after buying it.

I'm afraid the bubble has burst with Brit Stops. They could probably see it coming but at least had 10 years out of it. You see it many times where a business is sold and goes tits up

I found part of the fun was looking at the map deciding the area and then seeing what's around there to stay

Shame really

Obviously using the wrong Sat Nav, (or files contained therein), as my Truck Sat Nav programmed correctly, doesn't take me down dodgy or unsuitable routes, and copes very well.

I find it extremely hard to read a map when I'm driving, as it tends to interfere with my levels of concentration.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
Same here..dare not take my eyes off the road now..When I was truck driving I could read the map plus an A to Z and roll a fag at the same time..oh to be young..BUSBY 😃😃😄

Yes the map was brilliant - we had a few trips where I found a Britstop on the map and we just went there.

I did this last weekend but not with Britstops. Just found a cheap park up - Broomfield Village Hall near Chelmsford. A CAMPRA site. £7 a night. Had 3 nights/4 days and found so much to do!

I have just had a email in from Brit Stops inviting me back with a 30% discount. No mention of if that's for just the year or a permanent discount, but will lay money it's just the year.

Rant 1. If they are struggling, they should not have been so greedy. I think it went up from £28 to £44, no book, and yet another b&&&dy app! When will all developers realise that not everyone wants to fill their phones with apps. Car park's, restaurants, coffee shops, buses, attractions,, local authorities, banks. health (Multiple), as well as every other retailer. Sorry, I refuse to comply.

Rant 2. I spoke to the bank yesterday after multiple telling's that I could do what I want in the 'app', I had a payment rejected, (turns out it had been requested 5 times in 5 days so they correctly froze the account. FindmyPast have questions to answer as I closed our subscription this time last year. Of course, one of the payments then not made was Council Tax so now have to speak to the local authority to sort it out. GRRRRRR. However, the first thing the 'customer service assistant' asked was have I tried to sort it in the app....... Nooooooooooo, and I don't want to. Just put all the app functionality into secure on-line banking, like cheque banking please?

{End miserable git mode}

I've had the same email and unsubscribed from their list - again.

Ironic that a lot were moaning that they wanted an app for britstops, and now they have it the other half is moaning they don't want it. You won't please everyone but i do agree the price rise was steep and the reason i stopped subscribing but also still received the 30% reduction which i won't be doing as It's just too expensive now. The book is handy but i can see why they have removed it as this way they can reach a lot more people without incurring all the costs associated with this but it won't be for everyone. I do agree with the blinking banking apps though as they are a real pita and now its almost impossible to speak with someone

I received the same email asking me to re-subscribe. I dropped my membership when the business was sold and the price shot up.I noticed that the offer said it was 'exclusive' and 'the best offer'. However I also noticed that exactly the same offer is available to anyone signing up via their Black Friday deal, so this is misleading.

As it happens, I HAD been semi-considering re-joining, on the basis that one of my favourite Brit Stops in the past would not allow anyone else to stay overnight. So they're one of the very few places where you can't stay whether you're a member or not. I've stayed there several times in the past and to me it would be worth the membership cost, just for that one venue. I sent a message to Britstops to ask if that venue is still a Britstop but I never got a reply... I used to use Britstops regularly, but in general I'm not really missing the option now.

PS: I agree re. Banking apps. I avoid having any personal financial data or carrying out any financial transactions on my phone, and I don't like being pushed down the app path for banking info.

I suspect that lots of criminals will be working extremely hard to break into phone banking apps, and at some point, are likely to have a degree of success. Being told by Barclays that their banking app has never been breached. is hardly reassuring!

Recently received a Britstops email advising of subscription renewal in a few weeks. For us, given other options, it’s simply no longer worth the increased expense. Like some others have mentioned, we’ve now cancelled it too.

For anyone leaving brit stops or indeed anyone who would like to stay at pubs, have a look at this.

However there is already LOTS of evidence of people who are scammed into allowing thieves access to their phones, and then to their bank accounts via their phone based apps.

Totally agree I responded stating I'd left because of no book not that they really care.I've now found other sources of suitable sites and using 2 of them this weekend.Lost their use without any form of engagement or consultation which is the mark of a arrogance

I’m a bit peeved.
I’d turned off auto renew in the Britstops app as I’d decided it was now too expensive.

I’ve also received an email, inviting me to renew with a 25% discount.
Their Black Friday deal is 30% and previous members have also been offered 30%, but as a current member I’m only offered 25!
