Our Gtech hand held vacuum has stopped working, we've had it for years and the battery didn't hold charge for long. But it's been good in the van and also indoors.
Now we have to replace it what do people recommend?

See if there's one in the range of any battery tools you currently own.
Mike.

Just got a VAX 4 with all the tools and two batteries for <£150.
Not quite as good as our Dyson but not far off.
The news report of an earthquake in Scotland was just me falling off my chair when I saw the price of equivalent Dyson/Shark!

Did a test with a few vacs in Currys and as Gellyneck says vax not far behind the Dyson and we’ll below half price 👍 nothing else came close to those two. G tec was along with the others (mate has one) not close. We have a Dyson 👍but not tested the Shark against the Dyson so will reserve judgement on that but if the budget does not run /warrant Dyson money then the Vax would be a very good choice

If you are doing carpets then you need a vac that “beats” the carpet at the front.
Otherwise you may as well just use a dust pan and brush 😉😊

Doesn’t need to be a high W either 👍

My 20yr old handheld Dyson died this morning (motor revving excessively) and while it is likely battery I think a new handheld is on the cards. Perfect timing to the OP - thanks

You need to get upto date and not with the 50 year old add for Hoover / beats as it sweeps 😉😁 There are plenty of vacs that do a superb job using suction. Take a small Henry sucks anything up 👍 not my choice as I prefer uprights but cannot fault them.

We have three Henrys, I used to use one at work, so did Mrs. Odd and one for home. Now we have both retired we are not short of vacuums but they're too big to take away.

Always surprised when people praise Dyson . Bought one years ago (shocking price) Absolutely hopeless machine
Are you one of the people that smashes into furniture and skirting boards ? Years ago my friend bought a Dyson and literally broke it into bits. I could not understand until I watched her vacuum 😉😳

We have a Dyson but it’s decidedly low tech with a fixed battery that only lasts 20 minutes on high power then you have to plug it in for hours.

Son has a Shark and he and his wife swear by it. It comes with 2 batteries and a charger so one can be on charge whilst the other is vacuuming.

I checked it with a multimeter and found the charger is working, but the battery has a burnt out smell and although I can find 19.5 v DC at the battery, that's with no load. I contacted Gtech, because they don't make the battery anymore, they offered me a new van at half price. I've taken the offer and the new one arrives tomorrow. They checked the date I registered the guarantee, October 2014, so over 10 years. I can't really complain 🙂

A friend of ours in devon has them all, G tec,,shark, vax, dyson ,bosch, all are shite & by my observations have all been renewed at least once in the last few years.
The dyson we had in the uk the wheel spindles wore out. machine turned you in to a coal miner when you emptied & cleaned it . bosch we have here lasts for about 40 seconds before it is full .
Only ones I have ever found that are good have bags, Henry & similar types.
plenty of vacs that do a superb job using suction.
Kirby being the best

Agreed. I bought the ryobi hoover, torch and glue gun purely because I already own the batteries and charger.
Turns out the hoover has been great for me and my use case.
