What TOAD do you have

5 Door Toyota Aygo for us. Tow-Bars 2 Tow-Cars system. Approx 1-2mpg less when towing. Shopping car when not.

Citroen C3 - Perfect as it weighs 980kg so well within limits, has a good boot to carry the mobility scooter and/or electric wheelchair and is used as our everyday car too. Economical at 40+ mpg local and 55mpg on a motorway run.

Like Paulshaw we tow our 2014 VW R-line Polo with full glass slide sunroof which is nearly as good as a cabriolet but more secure
We looked into getting an auto but we’re advised that auto gearbox vehicles cannot be towed without causing damage to the system

We have an UP! tardis version. 3 door. if i were buying again I would get UP GTI and play about with doors to see which is most appropriate 3 or 5. probably 4 door 2 on wifes side 1 on mine.

Hi all what have people got as a toad?
Im a bit stuck I really wanted a Smart Fortwo because I want an auto and a cabriole, but I’ve been told they don’t tow very well to the point that some companies won’t fit an A frame to the, so who has A Smart Fortwo and how do you find them? I know you can get an auto, large canvas roof 108, C1, aygo but their not what I real want the other one I quit like is the Toyota IQ but it’s going to have to be a manual again and no cabriolet and if that’s the case then there’s an UP or a LUPO and so on.

So what’s everyone got and what do you think of them?

Thanks
Fiat 500 Abarth great fun, plus trailer m. Better than A frame for us in Europe especially Spain.😬

Suzuki Swift Sport 5 door. Used to be my daily driver, now the wife’s and also doubles as our TOAD. Perfect for us and the two dogs and if we are away with friends in a solo MoHo we have room for additional passengers. Bought it new in 2014 when I came out of company car scheme fully loaded for 13k. Been faultless in 8 years so fun to drive and owes me nothing. A new one now will cost quite a bit more but second hand they are good value. £1500.00 to have a fully electronic braked A Frame system fitted that is still going strong although I had to recently change the hitch coupling as it was wearing beyond the safe limit.

Bought a Toyota IQ only last week from Tow Bars 2 Tow cars in Grimsby. They gave me an excellent clear demo on how to set up the A frame and a great recommendation for breakfast nearby!
Haven‘t towed yet, but the car is lovely to drive, nippier than I expected and suits my needs down to the ground.

We take our toad back to T2T for occasional checkups .. If you have to go back for any reason I can highly recommend staying at Hungerhill CL only about a mile or so away. http://vergette.com/hungerhill/public/

Currently have a Fiat 500 sport with a tow bar 2 tow cars A frame. Brilliant car and a great system.
Would love to upgrade to the 595 for extra power 😎
My sister in law used to have the 500L Twin Air. As long as you played a tune through the gears it was quite quick for a 850cc.

If it is a FULL automatic with a torque converter then yes it could damage the gearbox. If it is a semi-auto/DSG then there should be no issues as long as it is definitely in neutral.

Toyota Aygo drop the seats and it makes a great trailer...

It's a Hyundai i10 for us, nothing special but carries us and 3 granddaughters about just fine.

We towed a Toyota Aygo Auto behind our last A Class motorhome. However, having changed to smaller van now, we are planning on selling it as we don't need to tow anymore.

Ours matched too!

Hi do you know if the auto box on the picanto allows it to be towed using an a frame please?
Cheers

You need to find out if it has a wet or dry gearbox. Dry, you can tow, wet you can't.

My quick browse came up with that the standard Picanto may have a dry box, but if it is a DSG Picanto, it probably has a wet box.

Having said all that, you should investigate further and speak to the Workshop Manager of your local Kia dealer.

I had a Jeep Wrangler Sport. It was great as a TOAD. Gave it to my youngest after I went back to a tow vehicle and trailer.

Quite a few folks seem to take Mini’s with them, although from what I’ve seen Fiat 500’s look to be about the most common, so long as you are not too tall :cautious:

I did tow a 4x4 Terios on a Car A Tow system, but now tow a Suzuki Ignis with a Towbars 2 Towcars lightweight system which we really prefer

We tend to take it every time now ‘just in case” we want it, not “we better take it”

This thread has reminded me that last week at Santander, there was a van dragging a toad onto the ferry to Plymouth.

We tow an Hyundai10 very happily, but have been wondering if there are any fully-electric or hybrid-electric cars that are towable on an A-frame?

Has anybody come across one?

Our Suzuki Ignis is a hybrid
