What should be done and what is a fair price?

their argument is that it is hydroscopic (which it is) and needs to be changed because of the water it will have absorbed. Don't shoot the messenger :D2.
The Fiat Professional commercial garage I use say it should be tested to see if it has absorbed water, then changed if necessary, not routinely.

I've had a local garage as a customer for over 23 years and he's still totally amazed at the brake fluid scam. He has 5 fitters and services thousands of vans and trucks every year. He says replacing brake fluid is a rarity but he checks it as part of the service. Most garages love a customer who wants the fluid changed. Whether they do it but charge is another matter.
