What Roundabout Lane

In Eastbourne we have a roundabout with two lanes in the approach but only one exit.
I think the plan was to have another exit to a building development that never happened

Doesn't really matter..if driving a bus or a truck..
Cars will get out of your way..BUSBY 😄😄

A lot of drivers just take what ever lane has the shortest queue when entering the roundabout regardless of what exit they are taking.
Some years ago I was on the Arc de Triomphe roundabout, god knows how many times I went around before I could get off.

According to any Sat nav I've used Kendal has two roundabouts: one on entering the town from the South and another entering from the West (Windermere direction). Neither junction is a roundabout.

don't come to spain then as they are taught that the outer lane is for every exit even though the police say it isn't . & the inner lane is only for going back where you have come from. No one instructing has any idea when the roundabout has more than 3 lanes.
Spanish roundabouts don't appear to have any rules apart from that phrase in the old version of the Book of Common Prayer - "the quick and the dead"

When I used to drive Paris Coach tours on the way home from a week in Lourdes, I found if you drove positively and knew where you were going, the Arc de Triomphe was no different than Coach tour of London. Both inhabitants cannot stand hesitant drivers! 🤔

My wife was navigating so I didn't have a clue where I was going😂

Bad if your examiner is sitting in the seat behind you. Causing a vehicle to slow down as I moved off into the roundabout was one of my major faults. Another was going too fast in a 30 mph road. I thought it was a 40 mph. There were no signs and it was in a type of road where all the others had been 40. I reached 35 and the tester had to tell me to slow down - instant fail! Only 4 minors though.
Sitting it again on wednesday. Quite nervous about it.
Already have a job with a tour company and they are paying for it all.

One of the biggest issues here is terminology.
You shouldn’t use the term straight ahead, it’s ahead, also, the word always should be replaced with generally.

Treat a roundabout like a clock, approaching from 6 o'clock, ahead is generally at either 11, 12 or 1 o’clock unless roads signs or markings show you otherwise.

If there are 2 lanes going ahead, use the left lane unless it is blocked then use the right lane.
When 2 lanes are showing ahead, the right hand lane is an overtaking lane or for turning right.

Use the MSM routine on approach, no signal is required for going ahead but check your near side mirror (if one is fitted) and signal left just after the first exit or just before the exit you are aiming to take.

If there is no right exit (generally 3rd exit) at a roundabout, it is possible that the left hand lane is for only turning left and the right hand lane for ahead, look for road signs and or markings showing you the layout of the roundabout.
