I’ve noticed people saying that they buy medication in Spain that would be prescribed in the UK.
Like antibiotic ointment etc.

Or Alcohol for removing sticky labels.

We have a few weeks left here so any suggestions on stuff to buy that might be useful? Thanks.

Don’t even think about the 600mg ibuprofen if I were you.
It is what they prescribe if you need any. 400mg never appeared here until the last few years ,Certainly were never offered if you ever asked for ibuprofen at the farmácia?
Something that is available in Spain but I believe in the UK is not or at least difficult and expensive to find is Betadine, useful as a disinfectant for cleaning wounds, ulcers etc.
yes also branded as Povidona yodada available in chinese shops also, as well as iodine, occasionally.
Most small cuts and quite big grazes will heal better on their own. If they don’t then you might need antibiotics
First thing they use here at A&E after triage. Same at the vets for any wound. Even the dogs have there own supply.:giggle:

I thought I’d forgotten my omeprazole when I went to London last week and 14 esomeprazole in Boots was £10.99 on offer,
2,42€ for 28 here 20mg oneshttps://farmaciamallol.com/es/farma...-capsulas-gastrorresistentes-farmacia-andorra

I did say don’t even think about the 600mg of ibuprofen if you are on antihypertensive medication and/or diabetic as these two groups are already prone to kidney complications. Please don’t quote me out of context it’s very irritating, a bit like the Daily Mail!

Just be careful. You will have to prove to Customs ( if you get stopped) that the medicines have been prescribed to you.
Tramadol, Ibuprofen and all powerful painkillers have to have a prescription.
One woman was imprisoned for bringing in 200 tramadol tablets to the U.K.
You don’t want to be arrested for drug running do you?
MHRA state there is no restriction on importing medication for personal use, HMRC generally accept up to 3 months as being reasonable for personal use. The exception to this would be controlled drugs such as morphine and (now) tramadol.

You can buy 48 x 400 mg Ibuprofen at Tescos pharmacy for £2.30 so I wouldn’t worry too much about stocking up abroad. Strangely though their paracetamol from the pharmacy is 40p for 16 x 500mg but on the ordinary shelves they often have one sort for 19p, “you know it doesn’t make sense”! Lidl is cheap as well.

If you‘re taking ibuprofen regularly you really should be on something like omeprazole to protect the lining of your stomach otherwise you run the risk of a bleed. Well worth checking the price of that in Spain. I thought I’d forgotten my omeprazole when I went to London last week and 14 esomeprazole in Boots was £10.99 on offer, didn’t dare risk it as I’m still on naproxen, then found the blasted omeprazole later. Oh how I moaned:giggle:

Us over 60’s need to be careful as well as someone has already pointed out as it can cause kidney damage and it’s not always reversible. This is especially important if you are on blood pressure medication and it’s a double whammy if you’re diabetic even if it’s well controlled. Don’t even think about the 600mg ibuprofen if I were you.

Thanks for that Carolyn.

I did know re. the 400's and there is an endless supply at Chez Emmit.
However, when I did 'The Walk' I discovered 600's and they are slow release. They made a huge
difference. We have also cornered the World market in Omeprazole.

Sorry I didn't read it as apertaining to the first part.Having re-read I can see what you meant.

Possibly but it is still available. <Broken link removed>

Did you ask if they could order it? Here if they do not have anything/ sold out in the morning it is normally restocked at 5pm in the evening. If you ask them to order it they should have that evening.

It may be a case where these are becoming ineffective because of people not completing a full course thereby allowing the bacteria to become resistant, i believe the powers that be would prefer that people only get antibiotics on prescription and only when really necessary.

Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that prevents gastric acid from being made. It does not protect the gut lining from the use of gastric irritant drugs such as ibuprofen .

PPIs are often prescribed at the same time as NSAIDs for this very reason especially in the over 60s and people who need to take NSAIDS for prolonged periods eg people with Rheumatoid Arthritis. In fact my GP has got me on omeprazole 20mg plus naproxen 500mg twice daily at the moment. I have have dropped the naproxen to just once daily but she very wisely doesn’t want me to stop the omeprazole until I stop the naproxen completely. I don’t want any gastric ulceration.

I am a retired GP but have been reregistered for the pandemic so am more up to date again and am certainly up to date on things I take!
