Rally Chat What is ok at a rally or meet

Brian and John - The only thing that is acceptable at a meet or rally is that you do what you want to do. Join in everything, something, nothing, it's your call.

@Janine I really hope you don't pack in entertaining us at some meets but completely understand if you want to chill out and sit back with the rest of us. But just think of the rooms you and the band have filled and kept us dancing until the wee small hours. A room/marque full of dancing, singing, table dancing folk cannot be wrong! Those that don't like it can have a little gathering of their own outside their van.

You can please all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time! Personally if I wanted to just sit outside my van I'd leave it at home and get the chairs out there!! More fun in a tent making a tit of myself!

I've been reading this thread with interest as we've yet to attend a rally or meet (still not sure of the difference tbh;))

I have read and seen lots of pics of strumming/singing funsters and was hoping we'd get a chance to see it for ourselves, I hope you do reconsider @Janine

Otherwise we'll have to wait for Ger at Bristol :p
@cliffandger

Thanks for the clip Janine........enjoyed that:)
What can I say but she has impressive tatts :ROFLMAO:

Janine & Barrie...
Personally Im not a lover of Ukes but love you both. ..
I hope you continue to play as so many people do enjoy them...your both a wonderful asset to fun and have been over the years. .those that don't like it do what I and others do and don't park near the tent not that it bothers me when I do.

The bacon rolls annoy me more than the Ukes tbh...

I got the impression from Janine's earlier post that not only were there some people who were not keen on listening to ukes (which is fair enough, but don't knock other people's enjoyment), but that there were others who were insisting on Janine & Barry providing entertainment as if it were their duty to do so, which if anything, is worse.

I hope that was just a misunderstanding & that they were just encouraging Janine & Barry to play because they enjoyed what they do so much, rather than because they felt they had a right to expect other members to provide them with free entertainment.

I too hope that this is not true Jim.
If you do not like whatever it is, do not attend. . Barrie and Janine are two of the nicest people we have ever met and there(FREE) hospitality is second to none. They also do everything they do for a very good charity cause. Janine you have shown to many funsters what a wonderful person you are and I hope you will shake this off like you have done with things in the past.
Keep up the Uke Faith

we like to have a stroll around the other motorhomes and have a good old natter with others in the daytime but is it wrong to want to retire to the motorhome in the evening for some our time.Would,nt want to be landed with the stigma of being anti-social.

Thank you for starting this thread @Brian and Jo .. we are the same, not really interested in partying until the wee small hours.. that's not to say others are wrong, it's just not for us.. much prefer a social get together, a communal BBQ with good food and good friends.

What does irk me are some of the comments implying that if we don't like this sort of partying 'fun' we shouldn't bother coming to Fun meets.. or even leave home !

Fun is had in many ways.. and in many forms.. there is no one right way to enjoy yourself.. Some of us like a bit of peace and quiet, sitting under the awning and chewing the fat with like minded people away from a marquee with load music and partying.. it doesn't make us party poopers or unsociable..

Frankly, I just can't see how the two can mix.. particularly at a small venue .. music and noise carries quite long distances.. so the people who prefer a bit of peace and quiet are always going to be at odds with the party animals.. and visa versa.

Perhaps the only way to please everyone is to have two types of meets... if not then maybe 'Fun' isn't for everyone .. ?

hi Jim and thanks for putting my thread back on track:)but its also nice to see that Janine & Barry have such a lot of supporters(y) one of my main reasons for not liking a noisy atmosphere is my tinnitus and hearing loss which make it very difficult to socialise in a noisy atmosphere.as I said in the opening post Jim what me and Jo are looking for this year is a bit of a chinwag in the daytime and getting to meet other people and in the evening some "our time".and its just nice to get other peoples perspectives and ideas of what a rally is about.as always Jim your input is informative and interesting to read.

Eh? Speak up man! I can hardly read a word he's saying with all this noise, what did he say? Red monkeys playing with them banjo thing without knickers and a chain saw in the other hand? Damned I know what the hell he's going on about, now where's the quiet corner?

As another sufferer of the dreaded tinnitus there are certain levels of noise that I have to leave, to help I have hearing aids but they make things much worse in crowds. As for Janine &Barry giving up please, please, please give up because you want to and not because of a few sour words.:)
Now take that bloody banjo off that red monkey and that chainsaw before he does some more damage!;)

As we dont drink we would like to do same
thank god for that Steve I was getting to the point where I was thinking that me and Jo were going to have to branch out and start our own club with 2 members:LOL::LOL:

I hope my tongue in cheek post wasn't one that caused upset. If it was I apologise to the Uke players and the karaoke performers.

I don't personally like loud noises because again I have tinnitus and hearing loss, and as someone else mentioned, a hearing aid (two in my case) don't help with loud noises or a lot of people talking at once, but I would never like to poop on anyone else's enjoyment of such things. Usually a rally is big enough to keep away from the noise, but we really prefer to get away from it all somewhere quiet.

We went to our first proper rally last weekend. We joined in when we wanted to and had our own space when we wanted it too. I mostly joined in at the marquee whereas mum mostly hung around the MH and we both equally enjoyed it.

there you go mate, just edited your post for you incase @drago35uk pops in for a look.... ;-)

Well I don't have tinnitus , but I do drink. Though a lot less than I used to since losing. 2 stone with the funster 5/2 diet . So Id be a bit less tolerant to something I'm not really not liking listening to. But tonight were celebrating our daughter qualifying as a Hair stylist , at a top hair salon. So I've had a bottle of prosecco ! Looks like I'll be having 2 this week , as it usually my Saturday treat .
But even if I was completely rat arsed. I couldn't stand more than half an hour with the Tattooed pirate lady. Lovely lady as she may be personally. It's not my kind of music or singing voice. :Eeek:
She'd fit in clothes wise with us at Whitby goth. Bit more eye make up maybe. Dont tell her about it though..... It's a small rally room !
But each to their own. I'd like to think I was still a funster even though I wasn't into that type of music.
But , I would never say stop playing.
I'd never say don't take up the hobby. If it makes you happy great.
If everyone else was enjoying it. I'd just make my excuses and go , if it was taking up the Whole evening. Ralphs the same. Infact he'd leave before me ! I'd be gassing somewhere blanking it out.
We'd shoot of to a local . Or go back to the van.
It doesn't make us party poopers. Just into different type of music. Would all the funsters like it if we made them listen to northern soul all night , 80's , or dance music ?
As I said we've not ever met janine and her hubby. You certainly seem to have a following , Uke power !(y)
But I can understand why , you may want to let your protégés move forward . Time for you to sit banging on a table and shaking a tamborine . Relax enjoy your weekend . Let someone else entertain you two for a change.

Hi Brian & Jo
Having staged some of the very best meets-----you really know what makes a special meet-----------but we do know what you mean with your question-------the thing with Fun meets has ALWAYS been to do (or not) what YOU want to do----------everything that is 'organised' is done so with NO pressure to get involved-------that is one reason that lots of little groups appear around the site.
Some Funsters do organise little meet-ups away from the 'official' meets as (like us) they just like to sit around talking (we have also been known to burn a few marshmallows while enjoying a glass of whatever takes our fancy)
You must be very close to getting your wheels????
