Making our way to Spain via BF Portsmouth Caen later this month, what's the chances of teh fridge being rummaged?

I suppose a coolbox under the bed is safe enough?

TIA

Hundreds of posts on here re. fridge rummaging but hardly anyone has been checked. In fact I don't recall anyone saying they have been, although there may be someone ............

I was going to say, but the angles morte stickers are a legal requirement but I really couldn’t be arsed
Let him without suffer the consequence of having no insurance should the worst happen
Fiscal ruin possibly, but hey he knew best

Thanks folks, just checking, I haven't been in via France for 5 years, having gone via Santander scince C19. I'm constantly flitting back and forth, to France with the car, but no fridge.

Looking forward to this trip, Spain in the winter is always a favourite.

There was someone on Motorhome Happiness today that said they had had their fridge searched twice on the Spanish routes.

You'll be lucky to see any French border staff except the one stamping your passports.

Far too cold on the quayside in December!

as above more chance of winning the lottery than being fridge raided
coming back from France last year, everywhere was searched ,,apart from the fridge ,,nothing checked on the way out ,,not that we take a lot in it , like the french supermarkets

I'm not telling you how much 'illegal' grub we brought with us but we've still got it all ... well apart from the stuff we've already scoffed! I think we brought too much bacon though so gonna have to have a bacon butty fest at some point before it goes out of date!

We take a lot of stuff in the fridge and freezer on the way out, mostly unnecessary, but swmbo is a bit obsessive about having enough food. She's even worse at home, I tell her that if we couldn't buy any food for 6 months we still wouldn't starve. We've had the odd check but no interest in the fridge, or the amount of wine coming back.

The first time we travelled after the B word we were good because we just didn’t know what it would be like. After that we’ve just gone back to what we normally do. Whatever’s left in the fridge at home goes in the van always making sure there’s plenty of cheddar if we’re heading East. Once you go East of France all you can get are variations of rubber or feta, Italy being the exception of course.

We have a PVC and rarely get away without being searched. I think it’s laziness as they’re small and quick so fill the quotas. The fridge door never gets opened, not even on the new van which is eye level as you step through the sliding door, right in your face, all black and shiny!

Allow me to be that someone.
Got pulled into an area set aside for just this purpose in Santander port after disembarking the ferry, 2 ( maybe 3) years ago. Food police came into the van to check the fridge.... just the fridge......nothing else but the fridge. We had a few small pieces of contraband ( milk, cheese, meat) and the officer looked in and sighed. He shook his head and left the van. I thought he was going to get a bag to put our fridge contents into before depositing same into one of the many large bins in the " search area", but he just muttered something in Spanish. He clearly couldn't be arsed with the paperwork and just casually walked away while waving us through.
It does happen. He didn't check anywhere else in the van and we could have easily had a stash in coolbags secreted around the van, if we were so inclined!
