What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

Top hinge on the hab door snapped in half. Three new hinges for 20 quid and a box of rivets from screwedfix later job done. The the robber washer that seals the main water tank perished and leaked. Luckily the new carpet soaked most of it up. Next.....!

A Gas-it sensor which fits under my Gas-it bottle and sends the results to my smartphone by Bluetooth. Its reliable to 1-2% i.e. gives very consistent readings. How accurate it actually is I will only find out after filling a few times. Currently on a full tank it shows 86%.

Well I'm please to report that I collected the MH yesterday from the breakdown garage. Took them almost three weeks but I was warned that they were very busy. They were a Renault agent but repaired my Fiat Ducato MH. Final bill was 80€ less than the estimate that was given. Genuine Fiat parts were used ( not sure if that's a good thing) and all the old bits were left in a box inside the MH so I could see what had been replaced.

changed shower mixer tap and replaced some 12mm push fit fittings, had emptied garage to repack ready for holiday and noticed water in corner by shower.
upon further inspection T piece for toilet was wet and had water on pipes down from shower mixer, so took that out. all the pipes on the connectors pushed in further and could not make mind up if it was the connector or the mixer tap so replaced all.
I think it could have been frost damage where previous owner had forgot to drain down last winter, already changed the new kitchen tap he had fitted as it had a split in it and had a pipe connector to boiler blow out which i think had been forced out by ice

Not a repair but a preemptive measure. Only got one key each for the Thetford locker lock and water filler lock and one was bent. So just bought a spare for each one.£10 well spent on my view.

I’ve replaced the toilet flush valve which was leaking fresh water into the bowl. Thetford part would be £75, but found it to be identical to a washing machine water inlet valve! eBay £5.80.

Tomorrow’s job is to change the awning gearbox

Thought this looked a brilliant idea but looked at price on website and couldn’t justify it as at the moment we tend to use EHU rather than rely on gas. But we have downsized to a PVC so that may well change in which case this is on the list. Thanks for the info thebriars

i lost vacuum to my servo on the way to the mot today so had to turn round and diegnose the problem.
the vac pump gasket looks like it was leeking made a new one and as i had another pump i replaced the vac pump every thing works ok now (y)
only thing is now knackered after just a few hrs graft while i have it outside the garage think i will change the CV joint and fix the small oil leek where the dip stick go's in to the sump at the breather pipe Y section.
my brother complained when i left a bit of oil on his drive.

Bill, a bit of oil is the least of his problems, you could have emptied the shitter :)

replaced a leaking shower tap, then found the push fit connection was also leaking and whilst flushing out the whole water system i then found the kitchen waste was cracked and leaking.......pulled out the sink and the pipework routing was very odd to say the least (swift original 25mm-20mm-18mm no wonder it didnt drain well) so replaced all the pipework to the kitchen sink before my girlfriend takes the van away next week

Put a new 30amp fuse in van and, with the aid of my mulditool managed, i hope, to to swithch the fridge to off, otherwise it runs every time I go out in the van. Off to test the battery again as it is either not holding a charge or the permanently on fridge was draining it.

Please let us know how effective your Maxxfan is. We could do with one or something similar as its hot, hot, hot here in Greece.

Today I took the broken shower tap to pieces ..... and glued it all together with Gorilla glue ..... :)

Located at the rear above the bed.
Have been "playing " with the settings in/out
So far with extract at 100% speed not to noisy ,but unless you have one to many gins may keep you awake .
With this pushing air through the van
IMG_20190707_114106~2.jpg

To the rear within the hour van became cooler with outside temp (according to thermometer reading on remote) at 32°c.

Then dropping to 50% and quite quiet, kept it cool for the rest of the day.
Stopping the other fan it warmed up again even at 100% speed

Next day.

Going the other way 100% blowing in the power of the fan seemed to cool the van ,certainly in the rear bed area and a good downdraft breeze.

And to quote my brother ( Leftlegger who also fitted the same fan ) "had the fan on at 50% quiet laying on the bed watching tipping point ,missed the chase and Jan woke him up at 7pm ?)

Without the other fan it seemed to keep the van cooler.
Certainly not as cool/cold as aircon ,but I was looking for a 12v option . Other than the omnistor (Thule) omnivent which I have had before on a couple of occasions and found them lacking.

The good thing also it can be fully open whilst traveling .
At minimum settings you forget it's switched on .
My opinion a goodish bit of kit.

Hope your travels in Greece are going well and safe
Mike
