What have you fixed on your motorhome this week?

I did have my garden pump up garden sprayer and hose ready. Never thought of that washing up liquid foam idea, better than keeping a bucket of bulls blood handy.
It works just about as well as Afff

To be honest a spray bottle with a bit of fary in it is all you usually need

The step on our coachbuild has been a catalogue of faults over the eight years of ownership from wiring, switch faults, bent side arms and broken pivots.
Now it extends when it feels like it and sometimes won’t retract. After more crawling underneath today it looks like the motor has had enough. It is twenty years old and as most motorhome steps are fitted it is not the best place for electric motors.

Last minute check before MOT, one of the side marker lights out. Quick dash to the local garage fir a new bulb and all well.
Passed MOT, so guess my weld repairs OK but got an advisory for all wheels having bearing play. Had that on my old Talbot Express, new ones just the same as the old ones. Is that similar on the series one Boxer, they all have a little play?

Have not fixed anything this week , but the dealer will be next week , Truma diesel heater packed in , smoking like a steam train . Bed support for infill coming away , although the screw hasn’t bent the way I would have expected , so may not have been fitted correctly in first place . Now considering taking out the extended warranty for Wildax as I think we have a Friday afternoon van 😂
Arrived at dealers this morning 9am prompt , guy printed off email with faults for workshop to look at. Take a seat have a coffee , I’ve now worked through the full coffee selection , update guys are still working on heater it’s currently plugged into a laptop seeing if they can fix it , was t the loose pipe they assumed it would be . I’ve looked in every van they have for sale but boredom now setting in , question is do I have another coffee ?????

Not fixed today , still belching diesel fumes from heater even tho parts taken off a brand new van on forecourt , and not started on other list of jobs . So setting off home in courtesy car and they will ring when it’s fixed . So to answer what have I done today , was tried not to get angry 🙂

Today my van got through the mot over the last week I have done extensive welding on it it was a bit of a bummer when a tane it back and I had missed a bit about the size of a milk bottle top
He had mark all the bit up with yellow chalk
At the mot
Any way he had a look today and it now has a mot
So I can get to my boat and pick up materials for my project van from magnums in Grimsby
And O’Leary in Beverly
There’s a bit of welding to do wheel arch back left
Going to cut out and try to Make a new bit or I may end up buying a complete wheel arch but I do like a challenge so I might make the parts
Myself

When you go to magnum ask about grey marble formica and 3 mm ply dirt cheap but they don't advertise it... and some staff have forgot about it ....formica greatfor wor tops doors and bathroom sticks well with spray. (contact/carpet) glue( they have another colour but can't remember what)

Fitted a Renogy B2B and a bypass solenoid in a friends VW Danbury. It's been in my barn over winter but there's no way I was going to work on it until the weather had warmed up a bit. It's rather cramped for working half in a cupboard in the back of those transporters so took a couple of days to do it an hour at a time to keep the back twinges to a minimum..

I got the information on how to do it from a thread on here last autumn - that's what prompted me to join MHF - so I've had the value of my year's subscription already.

Collected van today , odd jobs fixed , heater working on elec and diesel give it a go if it starts to smoke will have to be taken out and sent to Truma for bench testing .Flue was totally gummed up with fuel and was replaced and then heater ran on full blast for 2 days to finally stop it smoking . So overnighting near dealer for weekend just in case as 3 hour one way trips are a big of a chore .

Fixed a leak that must have been there since 2014, when it was built. In recent months the bathroom mixer/shower tap has been leaking and it’s an absolute B to get at, the panel that forms the shelf unit/tap holder in our B544 has two screws at the top and three at the bottom, though this only allows the panel to be moved out about 6 inches, plus the sliding door also folds into this space. I should have taken photos to show how very bad access is. Anyway this leak has been getting worse and I’ve tried a couple of times to get in to sort it out. Luckily most of the water gathers in the shower tray, though some runs down the pipework and under the double floor exiting near the wheel arch.
It runs over the plywood areas but these all appear to have very good varnished ends and haven’t suffered any damage at all. This time I decided we’re not going anywhere until it’s sorted so I dismantled the door sliding mechanism to create more room, modified an adjustable spanner to undo the tap, taped a mirror up so I could see around the corner and held a torch in my mouth so I could see.
Anyone that knows about these taps will know the three pipes, two supply and one outlet are push fit, held in place with a metal pin. I could see the supply pipe wasn’t as inserted as the other two and a slight pull had it out. It had never been secured by the pin since build, we’ve had it since it was a year old a no work has ever been done in that area, though we have had water ingress in the past gathering in the rear lower locker and several investigations by Lowdhams when it was under warranty.
11 years with a problem like this and no water damage speaks highly of the build quality but not the assembly.

At around 10pm on the way down through France on the autoroute I suddenly noticed the temp gauge at zero put the heater on hot it blew cold took it gently to the services bonnet up,header tank full, engine cool, felt bottom hose cool squeezed it a few times water moving in header tank,so set off after a few mins temp gauge starts to rise heater blowing warm 500miles later all still normal. Can only guess thermostat had stuck open and squeezing bottom hose freed it
