What happens when you've left the skyroof open

I saw a motorhome for sale on ebay , one of the side windows for the over cab bed was missing, just gaffer tape, his explanation was one of the kids opened it on the M25 and it blew off
So many things wrong with that statement - what was a kid doing in the over cab deb while doing down the M25!

Makes one wonder what the kids were doing in the overcab (Luton) bed and not belted in on the seats, and on the M25, wonder one of the kids didn’t stick his/her head out of the window out of curiosity and end up in the same place as the window cover, I suppose it was easier to blame it on the kids rather than admit he forgot to check, I have seen and alerted many a Motorhomer to the fact that one of their overcab windows were flapping open.

That’s what I thought - they had already lost the window and hadn’t covered it yet.

On a campsite when we were on lockdown there was a group who obviously weren’t used to motorhomes and they must of left their skylight open over a very windy night. Got up in the morning and one of them was on the roof trying to fix a piece of wood over a large hole.

Didn’t learn tho, they permanently attached their hose to the water pipe (selflessly!) with the hose in their tank and just switched it on and off as needed. Must of left the tap running at night as saw them in the morning brushing water out of their door and sitting in a large lake.

Hate to think who’s motorhome that was, the care they took, it certainly wasn’t theirs
I have seen many a Motorhome and caravan driving along with the
Large Heki rooflight up, I mean the wind noise alone would alert you in a Motorhome, though I think some drive with them open to keep the rear cool, good luck with that one, just hope no passing vehicle throws a lit cigarette end out and it gets sucked in thru open roof vent unknowingly, it wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened.

Using a roller team motorhome with a cab panaramic roof window in New Zealand a couple of years ago all five plastic levers snapped off while driving along causing loss of said window,
And before you ask yes they were all locked tightly shut before setting off,
The shape at the front of the motor home is like an aerofoil with maximum lift (suck) above the window so with a sudden squally wind plus our speed 60 kph was enough to break all the catches,
To my mind this design isn’t fit for purpose, ended up using tie raps and gaffer tape,

Exactly, Beacuse these days there are so many stupid people who film something rather than react to fix the problem.

Because they are too busy thinking of the £250 they might get from TV companies that could go towards repairing the damage.

Do they really say Ooo! Lalaaa
They do indeed say Ooo! Lalaaa. I heard it once when we opened a bottle of cheap Spanish Champagne type stuff on a campsite after we had travelled a bit. Well the cork flew off over our van and the one behind us and we heard the Ooo! Lalaaa.

Similar thing happened to me, Any one who had a S Class Hymer, circa 2005, will know the lecky roof vent over the lounge. Big plastic or something cover on the roof inside forms a double skin on the roof on the inside, full width of the van, about 4 inches deep, well we went out and left the roof vent open, when we came back to the van the first thing we did was looked at the floor to see if it was wet and it wasn't so we thought we had had a lucky escape. when we packed up the roof vent went down when I turned on the ignition on, you could always here it so you knew it had closed. Off we go up the road and the first time I hit the brakes, well it seemed like gallons if water hit us on the back of the head. That's when I found out how to remove the entire front section of the roof lining to get a sponge in there to mop out the rest of it. Lucky we were in south of France and it was hot, it took about 2 days to dry out and that was only me and swimbo. The van took a little longer. Bruce

On my second trip ever, I witnessed a van driving away still attached by its EHU and ever since that day we always use a check list, no exceptions, it's so easy done. 👍

We get a loud alarm that sounds if the engine is started when EHU is still connected. Only seen someone else do this once at Jasmin Camping last year, luckily I was on the ball and jumped out to let them know before it was too late.

I did see a caravan drive away with a folded rotary clothes line on the roof a few weeks ago but assumed it must have been strapped down.
