Who needs experience when you have.....
After a thought-provoking question and conversation with Long Haired General, I have been authorised to look at motorhomes.

What do you think of this "mint" condition 1999 Ducato Motorhome?

The seller will sort the windscreen, so that is good
Bodywork to the front is not a big thing. We already have a cost-effective plan.
Gas and Electric issues are not too much of a problem as long as it doesn't mean a strip and re-install.

It seems to have good bones and does need a few items done. So nice cheap motorhome or deathtrap or money pit?

And it is only 35min down the road from me.

It's an auction so how do you know it's "Cheap"? 1 day 12 hours to go now and at £7,700.

Only you can decide, good news is it's local so go and have a look 👍

My opinion you are bidding on a load of trouble, not well looked after at all.

Windscreen will not get sorted if will be the £200 off final price stipulation he mentions.

Damp damp damp is the keyword please don’t bid without going to see it.

Very poor condition leave well alone.

I would go and see it if possbile, they’re not going to tell you it’s damp or anything

The answer is to go and see it then. We've travelled a hell of a lot further than that to say NO!! It's practically next door to you at only 35 mins away!!

As everyone else advises, don't buy it until you've seen it, even if it does look ok from the photos (which it does) - invest in a cheap damp meter and take it with you. I would also take a charged up 12v battery and a gas bottle, hose and regulator - you could prob get away with just pushing the hose over the pipework and securing with a jubilee clip for testing purposes, check it's not leaking with some soapy bubbles!

Where has it been between 1999 and 2022? I would be checking all the previously identified issues, mainly those related to rust!

Thank you for your advice. A damp check was on the list.

Not a great MOT history...

Just found this post now when searching for info on Lunar Roadstar 570. Turns out it's the same vehicle as Cable33232 went to see https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/768540367987765/
Now listed for £13,250 I'm off to take a look this morning. I've been messaging with the seller and they have admitted it did have damp but that wad fixed and new section of ceiling was fitted and sent me photos which show clear differences in old and new ceiling sections. Mileage is now 100k. No info (lady didnt know, said partner should know) on latest habitation check, will be asking those questions again when I get there. Price would give us some immediate funds for any needed work.
