What do I need for trip to France

This is/was my old list to go too, for new members most is still relevant,
just a couple of suggestions..........................

hope these help , might be a bit dated
Terry

On a trip to Czech for the local Suzuki Owners Rally. Don't think I have enough room for all that on the bike. It gives me a load target to aim for at the end of June in the MoHo.

I can echo the Stop at Stop signs, where we are the gendarmes just sit and watch for you to transgress.
Also very useful if you ever have an accident is the multilingual accident "statement of facts" both parties complete in their own language and give the other a copy. Available from your insurer Co.

We used the Halifax Clarity Card for many years but during the pandemic they started charging for cash withdrawals (I think).
We've now changed to Barclarycard Rewards card, absolutely no charges for cash or purchases.

Don’t over-think going to France, road rules are road rules and applicable in every country, take notice of the signs and apply logic!
True up to a point, but no application of logic will prepare you for the 'Priority from the Right' rule. You can travel hundreds of miles on motorways and major roads and never need to know it. But if you are on the N and D roads you will meet it in towns and villages. Traffic is light as you say, but if you don't appreciate you have to give way to traffic from the right, even on what looks like a main road through a village, you are risking a collision.

The 'Priorite A Droite' rule applies throughout Europe, and many countries outside it. However many UK drivers have never heard of it. Even worse, many who have heard of it simply don't believe it applies.

The Polish police even applied it in a S/market CP, despite the the driver a droite having just come through a 'No Entry' sign to get to her a droite position. Both Basia and the other driver got fined.

It is crazy that in France one can go through one village/small town where the Maire has erected 'Pioritaire' signs on the main road with stop lines on the side roads, and in the next village the Maire has decided the opposite and that 'Priorite a droite' applies.

In case I am not sure I look at the side road for stop or yield lines when approaching a junction.

Crit'air sticker, you will probably never need to have one but for the cost it's worth getting one.

Only order from the official French Government site https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/ . Simple to order, use a pdf version of your V5C for a trouble free application.

The Crit-air thing is only if you go into certain citys i believe?
As far as I'm aware that is correct and then only when the authorities see a need to impose restrictions. But it's so simple to get the sticker I think it's worth having to save any possible problems especially as it lasts the lifetime of the vehicle like the German Umwelt Plakette

One reason I can think of for not getting a Crit-air sticker unless you really need one perhaps is your name and address wil be connected to your vehicle registration in the French database, will this mean they can pursue you for fines etc? And if you sell your vehicle will they contact you if the new owner infringes any rules or is involved in a hit and run for instance, perhaps someone with more knowledge can confirm or deny these concerns?

We are going to France for the first time in June.

Think we are pretty well prepared we obviously have passports and the dog is booked in with the vet so we can have our AHC certificate. We also have COVID passports on the APP if these are still required.

Is that all we need to present when crossing the border?

Thanks
Certainly have printed as well as COVID vaccinations on your phone as the French customs told me it was quicker for them if I had printed copy.
Check in your phone settings to see if you can create a ‘Personal hot spot’, as you are unlikely to be out of range of telecom towers and needing MIFI.
I have both Starling and Revolut cards and both work well and give a good conversion rate, certainly better than when I bought Euros in cash form.

I am sure some one else has probably mentioned it here but be ready for voter churn to have a worming tablet at a French vets. I write this sitting waiting to board the Eurotunnel having just made my first trip to France. It couldn't be easier. The French are right ready for us to be there. We took 4 weeks to wander to StTropez and back. Wonderful timegteat sites, good food and wine, lovely people.

Dreaded angles mortes stickers if you're over 3.5 tonne.
But some don't bother .....
Intended really for lorries in towns and cities but legislation seems to be badly written.
We drove down through France to Portugal and back without them we were stopped on return at French border asked where we were going and where we had come from not even mentioned angles morte sent us on our way👍😊

I read somewhere, I think, that drivers of large vehicles (like motorhomes) also have to have notification of the vehicle dimensions (height, width, length) somewhere visible to the driver.
Of course, I might be imagining this!

Hi - just a word of warning about the AHC. I travelled over via Eurotunnel last Tuesday. I was turned away because my dog's AHC was issued on 29th April. It turns out that you have to travel within 10 days of issue, even though it is valid for for months. I ended up driving back to Heathrow to get another AHC. It was not possible to get one issued by one of the vets listed by the reception people. Good luck with your trip:cool:

Hi Thanks
I’ve just got myself a Revolut card and my daughter gets £50 for introduction so win win!

All info is great as its your first trip........ we came back on Thursday..... lovely time and nice country........ just need lots of Euro's, in fact as we normally go down near Biarritz we decided this trip to go over the border into Spain for a week........ cost of everything reduces in a few miles over a border, and its still lovely area !!!!!
As its your first trip enjoy as there are loads of lovely areas.......... the only reason we ventured further was we have been going there for 20 yrs and after seeing the prices rise astronomically, were fed up with it and decided on a change !!!!!
Hope you have a great time and will be interested in your journey !!!!

I was just about to stick our new UK sticker on in preparation for our trip to France on Wednesday when I suddenly realised that half the rear of the van will be obscured by our electric bikes on our towbar mounted bike rack, especially as it will have the raincover on, what a muppet! The number plates on the bike rack plus van are GB/EU so we either buy lots of little stickers and cover them up and not bother with a big UK sticker. It seems you only need it for Spain, Malta and Cyprus or stick the UK sticker really high up. Cosmetically it looks horrid so I think I’m off to Halfords for a magnetic one tomorrow.

Just as well we left Topsham a day early to cater for c… ups.

Passports, AHC, tickets, COVID passports, and a sense of adventure, simples !
