We seem to be getting a group of black birds coming to the garden. Do they normally stay as a group
In winter they can flock together yes, not in the breeding season, if there’s plenty of food around in winter they can flick together and also warmth during the night. We seem to be getting a group of black birds coming to the garden. Do they normally stay as a group
Yes we have a black beak one flying in with the yellow beak males. The starlings come mob handed like a bunch of teenagers on the rampage. HahaWe get loads here, noticed quite a few of the eastern European blackbirds here, the males have black beaks, apparently over here because it’s warmer
Thanks for that Big Garden Birdwatch idea, David, something we can do with grandkids of The Gruppenfuhrer when they’re here this weekend. We can also get them toHad loads of birds in for the last few days, expect them be all to vanish for big garden bird watch this weekend

I think that's a her, not a him. Male has red patch on back of head. Our Woodpecker is back , haven't seen him for ages and yesterday and again today he made an appearance.
Think your correct, just looking at the picture I took yesterday and clearly he was a male and this bird isn't as big and can't see any red on head.I think that's a her, not a him. Male has red patch on back of head.
If you are lucky they will be a local breeding pair and may return with their young ... and just to confuse matters, the young have a red patch on top of their heads until they mature.Think your correct, just looking at the picture I took yesterday and clearly he was a male and this bird isn't as big and can't see any red on head.
so two different Woodpeckers in two days, brilliant.
Oh wow, how lovely! We occasionally had one drop by for a week or so in Cornwall (and one year a firecrest), I never managed a decent shot, they never stop moving - good luck with that, I'll love seeing your pictures! We had a goldcrest in the garden yesterday, beautiful little bird, had one nice before, my challenge is to photograph it now
