What Are You Reading...?

Not a series, more a style but I've listened to a number of books from the Audible 'Free' section, mostly about an aspect of war.

What I enjoy is that they are not a story, history, diary of an event but a collection of first hand memories, letters or diaries making it a very first hand story.

Battle of Midway, and individual tranch of The Battle of Britain, etc.

Currently, Normandiefront, D Day and after, from the German point of view!

Currently reading Handmaids tale
Love Ken Follett - kings bridge series and his other books

I’ve started listening to come of the classic audio books on apples “books” . They are books that I probably wouldn’t normally read , they are free , and the first three , including HG wells Time Machine were excellent . Plus with your earphones in you can still potter around if you want to

I only seem to read when we're away. I've just finished read Spike Milligan's autobiographys about his war years, and his start in showbiz. I got them a few years ago when they were offered for £1. I did enjoy reading them, but the casual racism and homophobia surprised me. The books are about life the 1940s but written in 1980/90s.

I've now started reading a sample of Tales of ice and fire (game of thrones) I watched the TV series and normally the books are better. The 5 book series is £14.90 for the download, I think I will get it when I've finished the sample. It will keep me going for years.

I'm reading Ed James's Scottish Borders detective series (DI Rob Marshall). I'm enjoying them as the places are local and familiar to me.
Thanks for the recommendation, also love reading novels where I can identify with the area. Like spotting mistakes too, one recent one, no idea what, put a village close to my birthplace as a few miles north of Glasgow, had me diving for google maps, thought my memory was playing tricks. Didn't really detract from the story.

Currently re-reading a series of books by Derek Robinson.

It's Biggles for adults, with black humour, sarcasm, irony, wit, and banter in equal amounts.

The current tome is entitled "Piece of Cake'.

I recommend it to anybody.
