What a plonka 😳😳

Ist time out and a trip to Moreton in Marsh to try out our new fangled toy. It rained incessantly so we played with everything, the grill worked, the cooker worked, the heating worked and we were now experienced Mhomers!
A break in the heavy rain saw us take a quick turn around the site but it started again so back to the MH to a smell of burning cardboard- we'd put sheets between the oven kit to prevent noise- and ,yes, somehow, I'd left the oven on after testing it.
I still Thank God it rained again so soon. Had we gone into M in M we would have lost the MH.

Talk of turning everything off reminds me of the time Head Office, situated on the top floor of the hotel I managed at the time, employed a new evening cleaner to cover holiday absence and the then Company secretary left her with this final instruction- " If you see a light by anything at all just turn it off, it's just a waste of electricity"
The lady carried out her instructions to the letter and 8 hotels had no access to the central server within seconds!

I fell out of the overcab bed once and as gravity did it’s thing my elbow( I think) smashed the oven glass.

You should have seen the mess:oops:

Obviously my wife accused me of being drunk but the truth is it was a mere misjudgement.

In the petrol station refuelling with the fridge on gas so there was a naked flame. Unless it’s sealed from outside ??
Most fridges automatically switch off when you stop the engine and won't ignite the gas for 15 minutes. This is purposely intended for protection when filling up with fuel. You shouldn't need to do anything.- unless yours is an older fridge that doesn't do this?

Should be OK to turn off long enough to fuel up. Mike

Didn't realise the OP meant fuel station - thought Super U was referring to the supermarket.

Anyway, fridges will not ignite the gas for 15 mins after the engines switched off specifically to allow for safe fuelling.

Yep sorry not that clear maybe.

It was when coming out of the Super U supermarket going back to the van that I realised I had not turned the fridge off. It had been on gas.

When I got into the van I checked before driving off and it was still alight on gas.

Before going to the supermarket I had fuelled up at the petrol station. Meaning it had been on all the time.

From what you are saying, it would have switched off automatically when I stopped the engine to refuel. In which case it must have switched back on and relit. Which is great. But puzzling as it’s a manual fridge.

Great safety feature though 👍👍

Yeh weve done something similar. Grill pans wrapped in bubble wrap in the oven and lit the oven instead of the hob. What a mess! Think having a few drinks just before using the stove is probably not a good combination!

In the storage yard. Guess what happens when you forget to remove the wheel lock 🤦🏼‍♂️

Now that’s an opsadaisy plonka 🙄🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️

Cheapest fuel we found in France was at Super U.
Had seen that useful safety feature on most vans, but not sure if it's been added to all vans.

Your fridge would, and will be alight on gas whilst you refuelled, unless you stop it.

Andy, I thought I had heard ours fire up on leaving the van, but wasn't sure enough to question @VX statement. A delayed start does sound a good idea, but I'd have turn around and go back to the van to check it after walking away for 10mins🙄🙄

The delayed fire up is when you switch fuel supply, and is more designed for auto switching fridges.

Van is being driven, so runs on 12v. They then stop engine and fridge waits a period of time, then operates on gas, igniting it. The period of time is the refuelling safety’s period. But you, and I, have a manual fridge, so if you choose gas it will run on gas until you swap power source, or run out of gas. It won’t turn the gas off at a fuel station, or when you turn your engine off.

A few years ago we travelled to our then base in France with the fridge and freezer full of food.

On arrival we emptied the fridge and freezer and turned them off, leaving the motorhome on the parking area. It wast the middle of summer, very hot, so we stayed around the house for about two weeks.

We then decided to go away in the m/h for a few days and I went over to pre-cool the fridge. On opening the door I was hit by a horrendous smell. We had left one chicken breast in the freezer compartment. Not only had it “gone off” it had mainly turned to a green, evil smelling liquid which had got into the metal seams of the freezer compartment.

It took two days to rinse out dry, rinse again and again to get all the liquid out of the seams and stop the smell.

Strangely enough we have never repeated that particular mistake.:(

Yep!

In France several years ago I did the same. Realising that the tea towel, that was wrapped around the grill pan had caught fire, I whipped it off and threw it out of the door. It set fire to the dry grass so I jumped out in order to stamp the fire out. Not a bad idea until I realised that I was in bare feet!

My wife reckoned that I looked like a Cherokee Indian, (other tribes are available), doing a war dance as I jumped about with very hot feet.
OMG ... I have tears running down my cheeks ... that is just SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO funny ... :ROFLMAO:

………but the truth is it was a mere misjudgement…….whilst drunk. ;)
... after drinking loads of that lovely French wine he so loves! :giggle:

I am considering publishing our 2023 itinerary on the Forum say that you can all avoid those dates.;)(y)
Yes please ... then we can follow you and watch when you next do something silly! :giggle:

That is what I had thought.
Wouldn’t argue with VXman as not knowledgable enough on the subject matter.
But, when I thought back, was glad that when I did refuel it was only me in the station at the time. So know the petrol tank vents are well away and diesel is no issue unless you have a leak that creates a mist. Which of course didn’t happen.

Well don't rely on my expertise. I know that's what mine does (and most modern auto 3 way fridges) If yours is manual it may be different.

Sorry, I was assuming an auto fridge.

It’s all good advice and knowledge to learn from though. Thanks mate 👍👍

No problem. The norm is auto and there aren’t that many of us who aren’t, so was just giving the info 👍🏻👍🏻
Mines only a 5 year old Bailey Autograph but the fridge is manual. One of their stingy areas 😳😳

Once when we were out with the van I forgot to put up the back steddys.
We set off from the pitch and plowed up the campsite
