We're off ... or will be shortly! Spain here we come!!!

BUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR ... had a text to say ferry cancelled due to the storm that's coming ... now on phone in queue waiting to see what our options are ... at this rate we'll be postponing until next Sunday so will be on the crossing with chesterfield hooligan et al ... should they be afraid?:giggle:
Why not just go on monday?

We came back in a storm last year that coupled with the crap service and food we probably won't use it again.

That was my thinking as imagine if the following Sunday was cancelled too . Could wait forever

If you carry a set of chains you don't need to fit winter tyres .

That's how I've done it the last 3 years .

I try to avoid snowy routes too . Down the centre of France is probably the best way to avoid snow
I've thought about getting a pair of chains or snow socks, but to be honest if it was that bad, I'd be parked up for the duration with the kettle on, rather than trying to plough on.

I'll have worn my original tyres out by next year, so will change for "3 Mountain Peak Snowflake" rated tyres, so it becomes a non-issue in future.

There's 5 of us already booked on the 15th Ferry

Well we are on the tunnel on the morning of the 15th heading the same way. So will look out for a long line of motorhomes slowing everyone down shall we 😜😜

Sorry guys, but just done a head count on visitors to Spain...
Germans. 223,456
Dutch.......128,564
Belgians. 47
French. 67,987
English. 875
Welsh. 1,786
Scottish........just a few.

So adding all together it appears that Spain is 3% over it's Winter capacity for motorhomes.
Meanwhile France can accommodate..

Viva la France...🤔😃😃🥳

Whits wrang wi Monday like?

Hubby wants to go earlyish so he can do a few hours driving once we hit Dieppe, if we go on the weekday 11.00 am crossings it'll be too late so we in effect lose a day, even worse if we go 11.00 pm. We're maxing our holiday as much as we can as our home insurance only allows 60 days away (no occupation by us) so that works out at a max of 62 days including travelling down to/up from Newhaven. Also the weather in France and Spain for the next weeks is pretty dire so if we did go earlier in the week we'd just be wasting days anyway. Bonus is that the crossing is 8.00 am rather than 7.00 am so I get a bit of a lie in! :giggle:

If it looks like 15th is cancelled then we'll have to go during the week but would rather go early Sunday as planned.

Party, party, party!!!!
Maybe ... I was planning on keeping my pooches company as 4 hours is a long time for them on their own (yes I know ... not allowed etc but my choice) ... maybe I could get hubby to stay in the MH instead however the trouble is his snoring would give the game away! :giggle:

Another reason for postponing for a week is that we were going to be driving down tomorrow afternoon but there's a Red weather warning not to travel - having driven in less severe conditions a few years ago and having to hide behind some low trees to save getting hit by horizontal high winds and blown over (not kidding!), and the fact that the Humber Bridge and Dartford crossings are likely to be closed, means it'd be chaos and a heck of a lot longer trek.

Tam you have to know where to look...sorry avoid...they know how to Colonise...
Large groups can be seen gathering around Lidl or Aldi before re- grouping at various locations... don't dare obstruct their sea view which they have had for the last 25 winters... 😃🙄 Just us here tonight...at 2195 metres ...clear sky...and getting colder..

So you don't count the days away in the UK against your 60 days insurance?

We do, it's 60 days per trip, or to be more precise, 60 nights, not in total for the year. We tend to set off the day before and cross the following morning but when we get back to the UK we normally travel straight home. I always work it out carefully as we don't want to end up falling foul of the insurance wrigglers!
