Announced as £1.25 per person ( b& b etc) .75p per person campsites.
Includes children! Starting 2027
And councils can increase it as long as they have consultation and give 12 mths notice.

Sick to death of local government and National Government trying to ring every last penny out of anything they can put their grubby fingers on.

Happens everywhere else in Europe and alot of rest of the world.

Agreed. But in the main within Europe they don't pay the rip off prices most camp sites charge these days in the UK, with minimal services.
here we go again rip off Britain. Land, insurance, wages, services all so.much more here, lots of threads on here about what it costs to run a site in UK.

At the end of the day 75p not going to break the bank is it?

I don't see how the people implementing the tourist tax can be blamed for what private businesses charge for pitches on campsites. We paid our tourist tax last week in Budapest compared to the cost of the holiday it's a very small amount

Can I assume every Welshman visiting England, Scotland and NI will be obliged to pay the same?

Will a business man visiting Wales to sign a purchase agreement for Welsh products be obliged to pay their 'Tourist' tax?
The majority of Welsh people don’t want this , it’s the politicians who can’t control their budgets and believe they know best.

75p a night is one thing but 75p per night per person including children for a family of 4 is another.

They bigger question is who will decide and control / monitor what it is used on.

The Welsh assembly has already voted in an additional 30+ members to allegedly improve controls.😏

There’s your answer. Salaries and Pensions. Now there’s a surprise.

Janet is our local member of the Senedd and often raises items like this in the chamber. Whilst the issues gain publicity in the media / newsletters etc, there never seems to be an answer or any corrective action taken.

So will Tramping truck drivers be charged this, as if not seems a bit unfair on the motorhomers.

IF, IF, IF I went there how would they find me as a 'Wildcamper? And then what 'officer' could demand payment?

Same for a trucker.

They are slowly squeezing the life out of the tourist industry; if you own a second property and holiday rental it you will pay approximately 3 times more council taxes on it, so either prices go up or holiday rentals become less as owners sell on.
Add the 20 mph negative press and now the additional taxes per person per night.

It soon becomes a relatively expensive destination.

Can see many caravans and motorhomes travelling out of Wales rather than in.

Unless of course the rest of the uk follows suit.

Will take a mental note. If, heaven forbid, I ever find myself homeless, I'll move over the border and sleep in doorways in England, it will be cheaper. Would hate to be sent to jail for unpaid taxes :whistle2:

I’ll make a prediction now.

The Welsh Government will say it’s not their fault but the fault of Parliament for underfunding them.

It’s always someone else’s fault.

I saw the Welsh leader on tv tonight being interviewed over the floods in Wales.
Managed to swerve and blame every other agency going.

I read that they may also be charging VAT on top of the tax. Tax on a tax?
Happens already with diesel and petrol (y)

Probably not but remember ….,

….. even Welsh tourists in Wales will have to pay it too.

Wales has been run, badly, by Labour since devolution 25 years ago. They are masters at making perverse decisions as to attracting tourism, 20 mph etc.

But those taxes are on an “item” purchased. The tourist tax is just a charge. Why not just make the 75p up to 90p. How would a non VAT registered cl/cs charge the VAT?
Either way it wouldn’t break the bank. Haven’t been to Wales for over 50 years. Usually spend my money the other side of the Channel.

Hah, Andy, you just reminded me of the Mr Fidler booking scene from Carry on Camping. I can just see Peter Butterworth's avaricious face  (y)
Ah yes; ‘One pound……per night…..per person…..per tent……’ ;)
