Well after a very upsetting Xmas day spent with my dad in his final hours and watching him pass peacefully away, we have decided (after consultation with the hospital, family, and friends and thank you all for your hugs and kind words on the Xmas dinner thread) to carry on with our trip and get on the ferry last night bound for Switzerland (us not the ferry) so as I type this we are nearing cologne to go down the Rhine riverside to Alzey tonight, hopefully I’ll get a place on the aire around 4.00pm, I’ll keep you posted

Well we have just arrived in Bad Säckingen near the Swiss border having come down the B500 from Alzey, we have seen lots of snow on the 500 and a bit of fog on the run down towards Waldshut Tiengan, but we’re parked up on the Stellplatz now, having a bit of food then off out for a walk

Your decision making reminds me of my Mother in her last days. She was basically unconscious and near death. I had flights booked to Australia/NZ. She was in a nursing home run by RUKBA (Royal United Kingdom Benevolent Association).

The very pragmatic Matron/Manager said 'Just go, We can keep your Mother 'on ice' until you return.' That objective advice from somebody who dealt with family deaths made my decision easier.

I relate this to confirm that you made the right decision.

I know, we have been lots of times always in the summer and we just wanted to see it in the winter. We don’t have enough time off to travel to anywhere warm, so we’d rather see snow than anywhere with rain, plus it gives me a chance to go to Germany

You could call at Bad Salzingen on the way home lovely Stelplatz nice town and amazing restaurant 300 mts away translated means potato restaurant Mandy is the owner you’ll love her and the food
