hymer t568sl
helo everyone new to the forum but not new to motorhomes, owned my 2014 hymer ducato t568sl 7meter for coming up to 4 years now and would not change it for any thing. over the last few years i have up graded the mh with truma aircon, solar and last year new tv and in house internet. but it all comes with a cost weight! plated as 3500kg plg most of the time we run slightly over about 200kg over gross, axel weights are ok checked on local weighbrige. Me the wife 2 dogs all our gear food and enough g&t for a week.
just spent a week on isle of skye and lock ness great time but the roads are terrible pot holes everywhere went to taliasker distilery what a road!! we think we have it bad in england but the local garages up their must make a fortune out of suspension repairs. anyhow to get back to my question thinking of upgrading the rear alko torsion axel to air assist and upgrading weight. talked to AS air at warrington can't sell diy kit has to be fitted by them £2100 fitted thought that was quite resonable. only adds about 30kg.
i have the usual 3 plate certs and i know ill have to contact sv to complite the paperwork. ive got a class 1 licence as i have driven hgv for over 40 years i am 63 this year and intend to retire later this year.
1 - fiat 3650 kg gross 1st axel 1850kg 2nd axel 2000kg-
2 - alko 3850kg gross 1st axel 1850 kg 2nd axel 2000 kg
3 - hymer plate 3500kg 1st axel 1850 kg 2nd axel 2000kg
question with air on rear axel am i still restricted to the 2000kg or will that increase and the same if i upgrade to the full 3850kg could that increase.
i am not vey computer wise so forgive any errors in the above

:welco:
With semi air on the rear the axle can go to 2240kg if you have 16" wheels with 225/75/16 tyres.
If you have 15" wheels you will need to change the tyres from 215/70/15 to 225/70/15.

hi and welcome, with air assist on the rear and upgrading the load of the tyres ( you may have to go to 16" wheels to do that ) you should be able to get an increase over the 2T on the rear.

Yes foregot to say I'm running 225/75r16cp
Another question do I have to do the air upgrade before I get in touch with sv at leland.and another point should I upgrade front coil overs .

svtech or van Weight Engineering ( who i used ) should advise you on whats needed before doing any work. you then provide the evidence to them the work has been done and then they help you sort the upgrade.

I know this is a question about uprating but don't use sv tech..all they offered me was an upgrade on front axle by fitting new springs....I spoke to van weight engineering who instantly spotted that my current upgrade was illegal due to having 15 inch rims of only 1000kg rating, they gave me many options on how to proceed and I ended up rating to 4250kg and legally this time.
Also check that the make of air suspension is OK for inclusion when making gvw upgrades, some are marketed as assisting in handling and not to aid increasing gvw...Lee at van weight engineering will tell you if your choice of air suspension supplier is exceptable.

I used semi air assist from company named mar-tech air assist. They have two type of air bags one rated to 4000 kg and one rated to ( 5000 kg diy kit £380 this is on fiat chassis though) if you use van weight engineering
They know mar-tech products so you won’t have to provide extra certificate for semi assist
If using mar-tech airbags .
VWE give all options for up plating ,
In details. And you only pay after up grades have been done, accompanied by photos before and after as proof .
Highly recommended Dee at Vwe 👍
Good luck

When I bought my MH it had a plate from N&B with GVW as 3500kg and a V5c with Revenue Weight as 3850kg, but no entry for MPLM.

All I did was to get a new plate from N&B showing 3850kg, because from the VIN they knew it was fit for that weight, and stick it on. Presumably the dealer had ordered the 3500kg from N&B ex-factory. No need to involve DVLA. Simples.

A VIN plate is not a legal document, a V5 is.

I find it odd they don't put axle weights on a V5.

Unless we see further proof they could be on holiday it's only a couple that run it.

Just done ours from 3500 to 4000 via Sv. Excellent service. DVLA were also right on the money with their bits. VED refund received today too.
I can also confirm that on checking DVLA website today mine too has been actioned. Just awaiting my new V5 and refund. But please do tell did they amend the max. Permissible weight too or are you going to have to send off the V5 again?

I am fairly certain that the alko chassis can be upped by the use of air assist.
