Weight and tyres.

The tyre pressure on the van is only for that spec of tyre . as soon as you needed to go to a higher load index tyre , the placarded tyre pressure is irrelevant . Pressure requirement is dictated by the tyre fitted and its load carrying requirement . that is probably why the saleman could only find one tyre with all the things you asked him to comply with .

"yes" he said , "Correct, but they are van tyres, and as such are used differently, and don't run at 75psi, nor are they stood around for weeks on end, and they don't have the same side wall construction to account for a motorhome running at loading capacity on an almost permanent basis"!! He continued " were you to be involved in an accident one of the first things to be checked in a motorhome would be the tyre fitment, and was it correct for a motorhome".
That entire paragraph is absolute horse poo to be honest. My response to him would have been ..are all vehicles running commercial tyres ie van tyres delivery vans? Do all of these vehicles never spend any long periods parked up? Do none of them run at full load capacity all the time ?

Its sales crap and very poor sales crap .

You dont get minibuses etc running camper tyres or most other commercial vehicles...no they run van tyres whether they are on the road loaded 24/7 or whether they are parked up and used once a month.

I had an alleged qualified motorhome service guy once give me that speel about not the correct tyres etc and he was told the same. A motorhome is just a van but with a different load.

Insurance would not have any issues unless they did not have the correct load ratings

Indeed, many thanks,, and to all those who have taken the time to comment and try and save me some wonga. That tyre was also my starting point, as they had been flagged up by many as a damn good tyre.
I'm currently in no hurry, I just need to ascertain definitively whether running non CP tyre's on a motorhome is "Ill-advised" , "Illegal" , or who gives a flying fig, as long as it has the all important 1120kg rating for the back two corners allowing me the 2240kg axle limit.
Regards.
Mike.

My motorhome was sold new with C tyres , I replaced them with M&S Michelins as I thought we would use it year round which we didn't. Replaced them this year for Nexen Roadian summer tyres, what an improvement over the previous tyres.

My motorhome came with 225/75/R16 as a standard fit. As I said earlier semi air fitted and VWE up plated to 4350KGs. My van has an original Fiat plate that indicates 3650Kgs with a Trigano plate of 3500Kgs. I jumped through all the hoops that VWE wanted including photos of the van. It's now registered as a PHGV.
What is the physical difference of a light and maxi chassis?
