We are stuck need help **URGENT**

Apologies to Manic being in the above post l have no idea how it happened it’s reference to Yodelis previous post #200

FYI. Corporal punishment was prohibited in all state-supported education in 1986.
I remember when it was banned. The cane got removed from above a blackboard. The class clown/bully started getting cocky and was kicked out of the class and sent to the headmaster. He didn't return to that class. I think they had a "special class" away from the rest of us.

The last fund raising thread I can remember was a few years ago.
ianthebuilder was staying on cold wet winters campsite in Kent over xmass(I think it was Kent?) there was an elderly couple staying in a van/tent/shelter next to him. They had very little money to pay for Calor Gas to keep warm, let alone food, so were not expecting much from Santa.
Well the good news for them was that ianthebuilder became their Santa, when he asked for small donations from Funsters willing to help them out.
Within days a healthy amount was raised and gratefully received by both Ian & the Elderly couple in their hour of need.
Well done Ianthebuilder, we all wished him well then, as we do now in his new life in Norfolk, as he also went above & beyond to help others in their time of need. We all hope he gets another van one day and comes back on the social circuit.(y)
What a great place MH Fun is, it keeps surprising us everyday, in everyway, a community to be proud to be part of, thanks to Jim for setting it up and staying with it through the years.
May it continue for many more to come.

Yes I knew who it was but didn't want to name names, there is in fact one highly regarded member on here now who had a donation and paid it all back,
Don't see anything but good came out of each one.
Very much like this crowd fund thing but for own members.

Just think, if there is 10000 active members now , a glass of wine less tonight each and we could have £10000 in a fund just like that.

And now the kids rule the classroom 🤷‍♂️
From my first hand experience over 4 years pre pandemic, that is only true with certain teachers. Indeed, no different to when I was at school. Some teachers you could play up, others you didn't dare.

To be fair, the majority of teachers I was in class with as a volunteer, had good control of the classroom. Those that shouted had the least control.

Trouble is creating a funding page is the easy bit.

It’s all the admin and checks that can cause the issues.

I suspect from my experience that good teachers never actually needed corporal punishment they controlled the kids without it. Those that did were pretty poor anyway.

My memory is pretty good from school days.

The ones you didn’t play up were the ones with a calm mind and a strong hand.

That was the availability of the slipper, cane, board rubber and the like.

Yes I realise that. It would have to be on trust. And what are we going to lose if it went to the wrong place, a pound each for a ten grand fund.
I know it won't happen but the amount we could raise is frightening.

Not so sure on that. It might well depend on the school we were all there by choice they could and did suspend kids on a regular basis and excluded a few. It must be different when they're only there because they have to. It's a reason why I think compulsory maths to 18 sounds like a good idea but isn't if you haven't got the basics after 11 years another couple is going to make no difference.

Our History master had a big bunch of keys,
" Do you know what these keys are ,boy.?"
Thwack,
"The keys of knowledge"

He was a bit of a sadist.

Anyway hope the op is ok, all very strange where he has got to.

I’ve just had a read through this thread to catch up, it being one of the few I noticed when the appeal was first posted. We were prepared to help out but Yodeli stepped in.

Before I understood who Yodeli was and saw the new thumbnail I assumed incorrectly that she was a cheeky french-speaking male brit because I misunderstood a post in French. I now fully understand from this thread what sort of individual she is, she is indeed a quite remarkable human being. I can think of very few if any other individuals who would go to such lengths for a complete stranger.

As others have IMO rightly pointed out, there is something very off about the lack of communication or contact from the OP, especially to the one who has gone so far out of her way to help.

Much forumite head scratching has followed, and while it’s right to not jump to any sort of conclusion until facts are known, I can’t help but look at the early posts from the OP which already suggested a lack of gratefulness. Members had to gently caution and remind him that people were trying to help him, and as a ‘spot market’ or ‘stressed’ customer in a foreign and higher cost country in the middle of holiday season he had to be more realistic about what he might have to end up pay for recovery or repair. Without Yodeli it could easily have been worse.

It is slowly starting to look like, having taken what they could, the OP has little further use for this forum, hence the radio silence. As a result, I worry a little about too much talk of a whip round, lest any re-appearance be entirely driven by such ideas.

Please forgive my cynicism, I do actually hope that I am entirely incorrect, and the behaviour is not as a result of some further calamity or it does actually have some sort of rational explanation.

Having offered to help, and seeing the outcome, we do feel somewhat relieved that it was Yodeli and not us that got involved in this instance.

Yodeli - don’t let this get you down. It’s been my observation that 99% of folk on here are fundamentally decent, honest and honourable, even the grumpy ones. I like to think of myself as slowly maturing sufficiently to be more like the vast majority of seasoned folks on here and maybe one day be in a position to offer you, if travelling, the kind of generosity and hospitality you seem to so graciously and continually offer others, perhaps also, if you would permit, also to make amend for my early faux-pas :)

Yes but the fact remains unless yodeli knows different the van is still there.
My whip round as you call it was not specifically for this guy but anyone who found themselves on some sort of monetary emergency.
In fact this bloke has only been on a short while which there would have to be some sort of rule against.

Must agree though he has had a peculiar attitude from the start but doesn't alter the fact that he may still need help.

the van is still there.
No idea at all as the garage is closed for a week holiday and the secretary said she doesn't know anything, not her job. She is not at the workshop. My guess is yes, it is still there. Only a guess though.....

I know what it looks like to all, and to me as well let's be honest, but indeed , having been in the same position a few years ago but at work, once I've been told the lady had an accident, believe me, I really felt bad. So now... just let's give time to things. We'll see if something new comes up. Then.... make a proper conclusion if that's possible.
EDIT : Jim I sent you a PM

If there is money left in the fund... I should like to inform folk that my repairs on my Intex above ground pool (which has served me well over the past four years) failed and I have been forced to order a new one from Amazon (arrives Aug 30th)...

This is a totally unplanned expense and so if anyone wants to direct some of the emergency money in this direction I would be most grateful and would consider making a small plaque to record the generosity of the Funsters.

Thanks in advance.

PS. Princess yodeli herself actually used the old pool when she visited a few years ago.

I think some unforeseen monetary emergency maybe but failing to take out breakdown cover when travelling to France to me is self inflicted. Everyone else pays the premium to take the cover.

Apparently this was their first trip to France, the first time we went we didn't have breakdown insurance, medical insurance, parked on motorway Aires , talked to blokes in black mercs and everything that is taboo on here which we hadn't got a clue about till joining here.
But I tell you one thing it was the best trip we have ever had 3000 miles through 5 country's.
And we wouldn't have been able to come on here to ask for help.
