We are stuck need help **URGENT**

Transit mk7 XLWB high top. We were driving up a long incline and the engine overheated. No warning lights and the temp gauge didn't show it was hot. Checked the oil no oil, it had oil when we left. Oil is in the cooling system. Really would rather not get it fixed here tbh I would rather take it my trusted mechanic in the UK.
I would definitely get it checked out at the garage Yodeli has found for you, it could save your holiday and save you a lot of money.

We broke down just south of Le Mans a few years ago, in our old motorhome, fortunately we had taken out breakdown insurance before we left the UK but we asked the guy who recovered us from the UK side how much it would have cost and even then, about 10 years ago, it would have cost between £3.5 - £5k!

The only problem I see here is they say "Checked the oil no oil, it had oil when we left." then "Oil is in the cooling system".
The oil cannot leak into the cooling system to such a degree as to remove the oil from the sump to radiator, water into the oil yes, if there is no oil and the engine stopped I'd guess something considerably more comprehensive than a head gasket failure.

It there oil under the van or on the bottom of the engine? any signs of leaks?

We are just south of Le Mans. The engine turns over. It overheated and all the oil appears to have leaked into the engine coolant. It’s got big problems I think.
Blown casket, and it sounds like it had blown for some time while driving (all oil in water), most likely need new head, hope not the block, if lucky head shaved, could be looking at just over £2000 in total, good luck in your quest.

yodeli to the rescue again (y)

You're a star 🌟
Absolute star 👍 I’d put the MH Fun support network up there with the home office and breakdown services - it reacts quicker for sure and usually gets it sorted much better too 😁

One thing you should all know is that a break down in France in August can really become a nightmare as all is closed for summer holidays. So the garage will have a look to see if they can point out where the prob is; but repairing it might be another story. If parts are needed , parts that they don't have in stock for example, and can't find a place open to send them... well... stuck again. At least the van will stay in a safe place while another solution can be found. But let's be positive and cross our fingers, and see what comes next. At least I'm on holidays, I can translate all day long

Ok ... Things seem to be in hand . I'm now waiting for the garage to re open (lunch time) to have their precise address. Trailer is Ok to take the van . So now ....LUNCH ! :whistle2: :whistle2: :dance2: :p
That's what I like about the French, life's too short to miss lunch.

Actually I did miss it as just when I said so there was a problem with water tap in the kitchen of the stadium. So had to sort it out first, then when I came back it was time to call the garage etc.... Had lunch at about 2.45. Now, at the physiotherapist just out of his swimming pool. My body is broken with the babies I look after
. 🤢🤕

poindexter

I am making a quick trip back to the UK next Tuesday and coming back to France a week later with an empty car. I can come back via Le Mans if they identify a part to fix it and they can't get it for a few weeks. If you can arrange the required parts to be delivered to me in Essex, or if it's not too far to collect, then let me know. Car is a Skoda yeti so plenty of room ..!

They were on the train from Le Mans to Paris when I last texted them and should be catching the train + eurostar back to London .Van was left at the garage, which is IMO the safer solution . I guess if any part is required they might be able to send it... Just a thought. Might not be what is intended. But that's a nice offer!
